BC Court finds school partly to blame

3 million dollars awarded (from the school) to snowboarder who paralized himself in the Blackcomb Terrain park 3 years ago. Whistler/Blackcomb also settled with the snowboarder outside of court.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO TERRAIN PARKS NOW???? If he got 3 mil from the school...just think of what he got from the mountain. Terrain parks don't bring in all that much money to any resort....well not enough to cover even 1 lawsuit, let alone the insurance hikes that will come of this.

it may have not set a precedent in the court for future cases...but it will have a HUGE fucking impact on the rise of insurance now. Take a minute and talk to your Director of Ops or the GM of your mountain and get the insurance figures from them (ask for one with a terrain park and without)....I think you'll be shocked at the numbers.

To ThreeSixtyFS....the school shouldn't have paid him a damn thing. He hit the jump on his own.
To Sketch....no one is making fun of him. We're making the point that he's being greedy by blaming someone else for his own actions just so he can get money. In truth, it's probably his parents who are truly to blame for the lawsuit...assholes. And you say that his life is ruined so we should cut him some slack....well, did it ever occur to you that he should be the one to suck it up? Our actions are in no way responsible for his misfortune. However, his (and his parents' and lawyer's) actions will have an impact on the lives of many people. We're not screwing him, he's screwing us.
And to all of you who say this will have no impact on the park or insurance or the sport...wake up kids. Insurance premiums will go up, more people will feel that they have a right to sue someone for their own mistakes, and it does set a precedent. Not an official precedent in the legal system but one that creeps into peoples minds, changes the way they think, and fucks with everything in the long run. All of you hate getting hasseled by the system...well guess what? Lawsuits like this lead to more rules, regulations, limitations, and other useless bullshit that means more people telling you what you can and can't do.
So look at the big picture.
Peace

Was this guy wearing a helmet? That article was pretty much pointless, It didnt even go into detail on how this actually happened. On a side note how well do helmets protect you from situations like this?
