Dvorak Keyboard Layout

There was another thread of this a year or so ago but I thought I'd bring it back.  So this guy created a different keyboard layout back in the day.  It competed with the qwerty keyboard layout but lost because of the way that type writers work.  The generic QWERTY keyboard we use now was actually designed to make people type slower so that the typewriter heads wouldn't get jammed as often.  Well the Dvorak method actually is designed to speed up typing.  All of the most used letters are placed in the home row 'a o e u i d h t n s' and characters than are normally near other letters are placed by eachother, such as t and h in the home row.  I started playing with it today and any computer can changed to the dvorak method in the control panel options.  Any thoughts?  The only thing I really don't like is that the hot keys are in different locations.

actually, it is faster if you're a good typer, but most people aren't good enough for it to work a lot. it's weird that you made this, cause I was at my uncle's house, and he has a dvorak, and it's a pain in the ass for me to type on, cause I'm not used to it. but it's weird that you made this, cause I have never seen anything on this really before

I just found it today on wikipedia randomly.  Been using it all day.  I'm gonna pick up chicks with it.

my dad uses it on his account on my mac sometimes. It's interesting when i go to log back in to my account and can't for the life of me, get my password to work.

I don't see any reason to learn it. I can type plenty fast now and I won't have a few weeks where I can't type at all. qwerty wasn't designed to make you type slower, it was designed to move the most used keys away from each other.

Right, so that the typewriter hammers wouldn't jam, some believe that it's also to make you type slower for the same reason.  If you watch your hand movements when you type, it's ridiculous how much you have to move.  QWERTY was designed for typewriters, Dvorak is more efficient for computers because they do not have the physical restraints that typewriters have.

Interesting fact, T-Y-P-E-W-R-I-T-E-R is spelled using on the keys in the top row.  Haha.

yea, my uncle actually has a dvorak keyboard he bought. like all the keys are labeled on it, so the first time I looked at it, I was confused as fuck. it's fast tho, cause it puts all the vowels on one side, and so alternating between consonants and vowels alternates hands, so I guess it's quick. and it's really rythmic to type on too
