bottom painting(boats)

ok so me and my dad decided to restore this really old fiberglass canoe for my grandfather who bought it like 70 years ago and it was full of holes. we did all the fiberglass work on the holes and what not and we got it water tight. now to paint it we decided to go with a west marine anitfouling bottom paint because it was a modified epoxy paint which gives it lots of strength and abrasion resistence which is exactly what we wanted. well we cleaned the entire hull with acetone and then some other weird stripper so it was tottaly spotless(xylene i think). i applied the paint like a week ago and its still not dry. its hard on the surface, its not tacky, but the overall coat of paint is mushy and i can remove chunks of it with my fingernail. the shit just doesnt want to get hard. if it were to bump into something the paint would just scrape off. its bullshit because we put like 40 hours of work into the damn thing and the paint is gonna fuck it up. its also been like 80 degrees and sunny here for the past week so the weather is not at fault. anybody with experience with boats have any suggestions at all?

alright, that happened to my boat, homemade driftboat, and it was partly because there was some moisture under the paint, and partly theres a special sealant that makes sure it dries properly, it takes a few days tho. this sealant was like this epoxy paint, but had a wax coat to keep moisture out, and i came in like an aerosol can. so ya, weird shit, works tho

you should of put primer then light coats of the desired paint

really volklpro? whats this shit called? it didnt say anything on the can about it but shit if it works ill try it. im supposed to give the canoe to my grandfather next wednesday so it needs to be dry by then.

If you used epoxy, did you make sure you put the hardening compound in? I did that once and ruined 2 days of work, it sucked

no its a modified epoxy based paint. there is no hardener to deal with. its all in a one can ready to just mix and then apply. the can says it should be hard as a rock in 6 hours and water ready in 24.

What kind of temperatures are you storing it in? And sometimes stuff like humidity matters too.

Put fan's on the boat, the moving air will help dry it out,

and if you've really got time to kill take a hair dryer, and heat it up, not to directly thought, and it will make it dry faster,
