i know that a lot of people don't like the salomon 912's because you have to constantly tighten the screws on the toe piece and deadbolts seem pretty solid (i hope they are cause i just ordered some) so i would go with the deadbolts

I haven't skied salomons, but I've had a bad experience with deadbolts. I think that I just got a bad pair, but the ones that I had were shit. After like 5 days the heel piece bent and would release whenever I put pressure on it. This only happened on one ski so I think that it was just a bad binding. I'm getting them warranteed so hopefully the new ones will be better

im a pretty aggressive skier that almost never leaves the park and ive broken 2 pairs of 912s. the heelpiece broke on one and the toepiece broke on the other pair. i have deadbolts now and have no problems to date. pretty solid binding but dont forget to loosen the tension springs at end of season cause thats why most people complain about their springs getting shot.

I would go with 8 16 if you ever have to set your din above 12, or get the z12's if you don't. Why add weight and extra din that you don't need. Plus both look sick and if you have salomon skis get salomon, 4frnt skis=deadblots, otherwise make your own decision. I've heard good and bad things about each binding.

why would it matter what kind of skis you have...and dont get z12s!!!!!dont get themz!!!!!they are far worse that 912s!!!!!get 816s!!!!do it!!!!

nomen's right, those two bindings are like apples and oranges.  The benefit of the deadbolt is there is now lateral wing adjustment, like there is on the Salomon - this is the screw that always needs to be tightened or re-applications of lock-tight.  It also has the double srping in the breakarm, which is something 4FRNT and VIST have developed together - this is a solid jib-specific benefit.  The tendency of the break arm is to want to move downward on switch landings, and with most bindings, there is only one srping which pulls the breakarm downward - the one which engages when you step out of your binding.  The double spring in the deadbolt acts to keep the break arms from moving down when you land switch, keeping you from eating shit when your break arms don't have enough pressure keeping them from hitting the snow.

I love the deadbolts, but I think that the Salomon is a fine binding too... Salomon has been around for a long time and they make a quality product, but 4FRNT is amking an awesome binding now too, and for the price, it's a no-brainer... all dead bolts (412, 614, and 816) retail for $270 before any discounting - being able to buy an 816 for that is a sick deal

i like the deadbolts, but they don't look very all-mountainy

and they match my snowpants/jacket

in my opinion, which is well rounded for these two companies since i have ridden each binding extensively is this: the 4Frnt Deadbolt is the much better binding of the two. I have had no pre releases and my skis have only come off when 'they had to'. The Deadbolt is an amazing binding for a great price as well.

Personally i would get a rossi bindings but if i had to choose i would get the 4frnt deadbolts just beacuse from what i hear they are a little beefier, but the salomons have been around for longer. so its kind of hard to decide.

i have the 912 and i hate them.  they come off all the time when i do 270s on and even sometimes when i do 3's.  they almost always come off when i attempt 5's.  i hate them. im pretty sure im getting deadblots for next season, but my shop cant mount them for some reason.  once i find a shop that can, im going to buy them

The p18 has always been basically nothing but metal, and it's the only one which retained the pivot heel piece - sick binding, pain in the ass to bend the brakes on.  The px18 which is *new* for next year is styled just like the whole px series from this year.  No more turntable heel piece, but the typical px plastic/metal heel housing.  It also will come stock with a wide brake for next year.  It's gonna be a bomber binding, but it no longer has the pivot heel, which sucks in my opinion.

you just cant compare 912s and 816s. 816s are actually a very nice binding, people just dont give it the cred it deserves cus its a 4frnt binding. i know vicious had them on his ANTs and he loved them, said they compared to higher-end salomons.

now notice i said higher end, theres a huuge difference between the 912s and the 916s. construction, spring strength, all that jazz. its like the difference between PX12s and p18s, you just cant put them in the same category.

to get back to the main point, deciding between the two, your decision should be very, veeeeerry simple. get the 816s. no question about it.

my friend loves his z12, and he is basically a pro skier, can throw 12, double flips, all easily, these are just his toy bindings for saftey in the park, but they have not broke yet. On his ar6's they look sick too and have no scratches even. If you don't make stupid decisions your bindings should not break, 9 12's easily break though, z 12's roughly the same but lighter so mby a little more breakable, and 816 seem bombproof but are heavier and have 8 as the lowest din, witch could be alright for you.

Crank your din up or else move the boot size smaller lots of shops don't adjust the boot size correctly.

if you have them set rigth you never have to fiddle with the 'wing' adjustment.

I think salomon's is lighter. I prefer lighter bindings. I have ridden salomons too, they work as well. The only bad thing about them it's that the front-binding-thing is ugly.

i just skied the past 2 seasons on salomon s912's.  the first season was only about 15 days, and i didint do that much cool stuff in the park, so they worked alright.  this past season i skied alot more and was trying bigger harder stuff inthe park.  my bindings failed miserably.   i cant tell you how many times they just flew off as soon as i stared to spin.  i was pretty badly bruised all season because they would just fly off when i did 270's on and then i would fall and slma myself on the box or whatever.    one time they cost me placing in a comp.  they sucked so hardcore
i just bought some 816 deadbolts from the huge getboards sale.  they seem pretty sick.  ive heard they are really durable which is good becuase my salomona had chips of pieces missing from the binding.  ive also heard that deadbolts are heavier.  for me i dont really care.  im a pretty big guy (225 lbs)  so a couple extra pounds on the bindings shouldnt phase me. 

in conclusion, i would never buy salomon bindings again.  ive heard that they have higher level bindings that are mor quality, but my relationship with salomon bindings has been destroyed.  i just hope the deadbolts are nice

look around ns and get the old rossis or looks with the pivoty heel thingy, even though they are heavier and might cost more(im not sure if they actually do cost more or not) i think it would be better because you have a less chance of blowing out your knee

before you buy some deadbolts make sure your shop has a mounting plate. i had to wait 2 weeks till my shop could get a mounting jig that they ordered specifically for me sionce they never ordered in a pair of deadbolts before. most shops dont carry deadbolts so ask around about mounting jigs first.

How can they not be? They are both bindings....or is it because of the din. Big deal, its not like skis. Bindnigs are bindings, and there isnt tooo much difference among them.
