Beartooth... whats the deal?

never been. I have one question, do they have a terrain park? and is it sick, fun, ok, dont waste the gas?

it is FUN.... like they dont have much but of what they do have is sick...... this last year they had 2 step downs and they shared a landing... the landing was steep and nice.. the two hits were a smaller hit which was about 20-25 feet.. and the big hit was 40 feet.. the in runs were a lil sketch cuz they hadent gotten the cat down there in a while.... it is by far the most chill summer hill you can go to in my opinion.. defeinitly worth the gas money...

oh and they have sick steeps too..

$40 per day... but they are super chill there and if the conditions are not that great they will say like $20 or something or give u half day prices. it just depends...

and i think it opens maybe late may.. but if not about middle of june or so i would say.

I plan on being there the second week of June, gonna be sick :)  I think there should be a good amount of peeps there that week too so if you can get work off etc. start making plans now

Although, now after looking at their website (which they finally updated) they might not even be operating this summer?  It says "race camp" does that mean all skiing?  Cause fuck that would be gay...

I think Im planning on going to Mt. Hood now, anyone else been there?  Do they really close the lifts at like 1:30 PM?  Let me know if you have any info

I emailed the camp a few weeks ago. They will be open to the public, there will be race camps, an "extreme camp" (not sure if that is the big mountain camp listed on the site), and a moguls camp put on by Tony Gilpin. I plan on making either a week long trip or a few weekend trips down there this year. Make sure to email them before you go as the ski area does have a 100 person/ day limit.

I just got a job up at the twin lakes headwall and i am most likley going to be in charge of the park.  Last time they were open we put together this really fun park in just 2 days so with more planing going into it this year it should be pretty sick.  i will keep posting more details as i get them.

it really depends where you want to make your jump. there are sooo many places to do it at... and there are tons of camp grounds right around so you might just want to decide when you get there and pick your jump spot cause if you pick your camp ground before, you might get there and decided you want to build your jump on the other side of the pass.. and if your going to be up there for a few days or more its much easyer to be close then have to drive a long way every morning ... but if you wanna know names of campgrounds i can get some to ya?

i'm pretty sure its mostly national forest up there, meaning you can find a nice spot to ski/ build a booter, and just set up camp right there. as far as actual camp grounds, i have camped right at the bottom of the pass on the north side- ie between red lodge and the actual pass. take a look at the montana atlas- there are probably tons of places to camp down there

I've been in the Beartooths multiple times. In 2003,2004 and 2006. The best park they had was in 2004 and it was nuts. SO many features, a 100 foot table, wallrides, jibs, etc... But thats because both Empire and All Stars were hosting camps so there were also crazy crowds and liftlines.

When I was there in 06 there was one jump with multiple takeoffs, stepover/stepdown style. I think they were 15 and 25/30 feet. They also had a rollercoaster rail, flat boxes and flat rails. The good part about the smaller park was that there were never lift lines. After the racers left in the morning the place got empty. There was one day when we were the only paying customers at the area in the afternoon.

we had like a 30 foot jump then a flat box, a flat down and a flat bar. this was all made in 2 days. This year we get to use all of red lodges rails and will be working on it for several weeks befor it opens.

What happens in Montana stays in Montana

After a brief chunk of time in the intermountain Rockies which we will refer to as "Spring Break '09", it started dumping. Winter was hitting hard once again. Wiley Miller arrived back from travels to Norway, and Liam Downey came in from Colorado after a quick call. We drove north 12 hours, stopping once in Big Sky and once at the boiling river for a dip, and we were in the Beartooth's.

I don't say this often, but it was right place, right time. 2-3 ft of fresh snow upon arrival, and five straight days of bluebird to work it over. The low key lifestyle here helps everybody focus on skiing, sleep, and not much else. Wiley was on a warpath of unfinished business and strong mindset of skiing goals. This is a good recipe. We got to try out some variations and new ideas with terrain that we already new well, and skiing was going hard all day long, which resulted in some pretty cool stuff going down. Adding to this energy was a neighboring TGR crew led by Pete O'Brien with Sammy Carlson and Dylan Hood, and seeing things being busted off all around us was a fun vibe to witness. Liam was also finding a new rhythm with his Chopsticks, and despite having had a slow year in the backcountry, picked back up to pace with some effortless fakie landings. Stefan Thomas made a late arrival appearance to this week, but came just in time for one last good ski day to help the boys session down.

Sun baked the slopes, enough tracks were layed to make it look like a European ski resort, and a new storm system moved in...doesn't matter though, we're on our way to Alaska!

Just went up for the first time today to blast the cornices and do some skiing. There is tones of snow and blasting avilanches is really bad ass. i will post video and pictures as soon as i can, Its going to be an epic summer and i hope to see as you up there.

I just made a thread about the beartooth pass in the ski gabber. I need as many people as i can to know about the Red Lodge International ski and Snowboarder Camp so i need the local Montanans to vouge for how sick it is up there. I need you guys to help me keep that thred alive. The more people we can get up there the better it will be. so post away.

so i've never been down to the beartooths so i dont really know whats up... is this park open to the public? or do you have to be in a camp? also, is it possible to hike to the park area and ski it? $45 per day is pretty steep.

the park is open to the public. the only camps there are the race teams that come to train and the big mountain camp that will be hapening this summer. $45 is what we have to charge for a day ticket just like any other ski area and considering that a whisler summer day ticket is 57 and a hood summer day ticket is about the same the pass is relatively cheep. half day tickets are $35 and they start at 12. i would recomend just getting half day passes because its still pretty icy in the morning and it makes it a bit cheeper. we will also have multi day passes that will give you a discount as well. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
