Yea, I would say something that floats would be your best bet.
And seriously, I have no clue, cause grinding on a wakeboard just seems fucked up/pretty hard/exceedingly dangerous to me....i stick to jumping the wake.
Well, you gonna need more shit than you think. It would either have to have a really wide base just below the surface, or more likely a really deep keel like jobby with weight in it, and I'd say your going to want it to go 6 feet down at least, this of course based entirely on my knowledge of physics not my knowledge of wakeskating.
if you want it to float, you should pick up some of those big 55 gallon things, the kind of thing that swim rafts are held up with. build your rail on top of those and use trex (sometimes dock material) as a top sheet. also, if you get about 4 anchors and attach them to the side of the rail, you can keep it steady when u use it, and then also take it out later.
the base hase to be at least 1.5 time the size of the height. I reccomend 2 times, on the under belly you use metal strapping to attach the large plastic oil drums. A common shape for a wakeboarding/skating box is either a battle ship (up/flat/down) where you hit the up and gap the down. For more advance riders there is a box that is a up/flat/down/flat/down (i dont remember the name) where you hit the big up, gap the first flat and then ride the down/flat down.
Be sure to to use all pressure treated wood, then use water sealing paint. It is improtant to keep it from rotting.
my friend made one out f huge styrofoam blocks, pressure treated wood, and treck (the wood composite shit)it was just like a recangle. nothing too special, im not sure how well it worked though
my friend built a wakeboard kicker.. and he just built a normal kicker and filled the inside and put foam around it, and topped it with pvc it works great..
