Man, sucking at science is not helping me

So I'm trying to figure out what major to do at my new school. I got in as history and have found that I like history because it's easy for me and that's it. So I brainstormed today to find what careers would be enjoyable and every single one is in the allied health field. Only thing is, I do not do well in general chem. BUT, one of the best surgeons I know once told me that he was a non-traditional med student and actually failed general chemistry the first time he took it.
My question to you guys - for those of you who have taken general chem and advanced chem classes (orgo, biochem), was general chem more difficult for you guys due to it's unspecific nature (as opposed to the specificity of biochem, for example)?

i am in general chem, and its really easy for me. anyways, i hear that biochem is real hard compared to chem, so i would expect that to be harder for people. same with organic chem. thats what my teachers have told me at least

i suck at general chem....i hear orgo is more manageable for somebody like me at least...more memorization and less random shit

hmm, that's what I expected to hear. I can't figure out how the surgeon failed chem the first time and then aced orgo and biochem. Weird.

orgo and biochem, pchem etc etc are much much different than general chem. General chem is so broad and covers such a wide spectrum its easy to get fucked over, it can be a touch class. With organic chemistry, for example, it is much more specified. Granted, it banks quite heavily on at least a decent knowledge of principles of general chemistry, but it is in a different league. It is a lot of memorization and how large molecules work and interact with each other, rather than covering the basics of almost every aspect of chemistry that you will see in general chem.

Gen Chem was no fun at all. Huge classes. Dumb Profs who hate their jobs, but have to teach because their research is so uninteresting it cant get funding. I hated that shit.
Organic was a little better, but my prof for two quarters was an absolute assclown. Better stuff, but know your basics. I almost failed the last class in the series, not my favorite stuff.
Now, biochem was a whole different bag for me. I liked the class, somewhat interesting stuff, but my god, the tests killed me. I dont know why I did so bad, there was a total disconnect for me between what was taught in class vs what showed up on the test. I managed to get through it however.
Now, I'm a biology major with a concentration in physiology, and while I gave up the dream of med school a while ago, I'm pretty sure I'm still going to end up in a biomedical career. I'm even now entertaining the possibility of applying for a med school, now that chem is over and my GPA is starting to recover. So yeah, chem can be an absolute bitch, but as long as you arent interested in a job that requires you using it everyday, just treat it like the god-awful requirement it is and get through it with the least damage possible.

Cool - thanks guys. Medical Bio for Pre-P.A. is one of the majors I'm considering, which is why chem is a necessity. I've also been checking out Occupational Therapy more and more and it seems like a solid alternative if I decide against medical bio.

Ya man you should be fine. Unless you are a chem major (like myself..probably a poor choice) you'll be fine. It will be tough, no doubt about that, but if you aren't in the major it is definitely manageable and you won't be taking chem classes the level of those who are taking chem/chem eng as a major. Just be prepared to study a few hours a week and you should be good.

beauty - I'll be entering my third (of my apparent 5) year of college, so I'm used to assloads of work. Thanks again for the responses guys.
