What to put on my bacons

I just ordered a pair of bacons for next year and I was wondering what bindings to put on them.
I am 6'1", 170 pounds, and i will be using them as my powder ski when I go to school in Utah next year.
I was thinking about getting 914's but my shop is sold out, but I can get 916's, but do i really need a din that high?
So what does everybody think i should put on them?
And if anybody knows of any crazy deals on some let me know, cause I need to save up all summer just to afford these.

916s are a good pick, that's what pollard uses.

however, i am not as strong a skier as pollard, i just thought since i don't need a din of 16, i could go with something a tiny bit lighter, because i held the 916s in the shop and they seem super heavy

you're a little bigger than him though, it's up to you, you may be able to find some 914s elsewhere (look for the LAB model, all metal, very nice) or either of the deadbolt/vist models mentioned above would work well. also, any of the 14DIN look/rossis would work too, they have them in both pivot and PX heels.

916s = a billion pounds...sooooo heavy. same with the looks and rossis.deadbolts are the lightest beside the dcheap ones that are mostly plastic

You don't need to ask yourself if you need a DIN to 16, you need to ask yourself if you'll run a DIN of 11 or more, cause if not, then you probably don't need 916's.
The 914 is basically the same shitty binding at the 912, plastic crap and break easy, the LAB model does have the metal 916 heel, but still the plastic toe (I believe, not 100% certain on that though). Most all things Look/Rossi are nice, especially the racestocks (FKS/Turntable models), I'm not a fan of the PX heel, but some people like it. The 14 DIN Pivot series would be a great choice.

because theyre the same as a shitty nordica binding that came out 4 or 5 years ago. everyone hated the nordica, but once u slap a 4frnt paintjob on it...zing! its popular. stick with look/rossi

yeah those are better, 916 being bombproof and 914s not so much, but i just like look/rossi cuz the pivots, px, and fks are all such good bindings. for the bacons i would go px for the wider screw pattern, thats wat i have on my hellbents and theyre great

hey man, I'm rocking some bacons and I can tell you that is doesn't matter what you put on them - they will be ridiculously heavy. You won't be spinning on them. You could use duct tape and they will still feel quite weighed down. Just put on any normal binding - you DO NOT need a din up to 16, or even 14. I weigh 195 and have my din set at 8 and they have been fine. Don't fall into the hype. There are maybe 25 skiers on this site who would legitimately want to crank their dins above 12. I've got px12 ti on mine and they are great. only bindings to stay away from are the fks series and older p12 because the heel screw patterns are close together and you might rip them out of such a heavy ski.

hmmm wrong.vist asked nordica if they wanted to use there binding and nordica said no. not the same binding. and zing!all of the world cup racers use vist bindings so hmmm who uses salomon? no one in the right state of bind of course...

what can i compare them to in weight, like how would they compare to my 04/05 fujatives with the old rossi scratchs, the pivot ones

unless you have ridden really fat skis there is nothing to compare them to. Ar6 felt like matchsticks after riding on Bacons. They are literally almost twice as heavy as your fujatives I bet. Fujatives aren't heavy skis comparatively speaking. So, just get a solid binding with a wide screw pattern (I'd go with a 914 or a px12) and you'll be set. EnjoY!

actually everyone hated the binding integration system, which was a piece of crap. i have a pair of 816s on my JPs and they have been fine all year (mine are actual vists though, maybe that has something to do with it), but it seems they haven't had to many complaints (the only one i've seen is that guy who bent his heel), in fact i've heard more complaints about the new PX heel than the vists/deadbolts. now i'd actually like to hear some reasoning behind the hate for these bindings?

i would still way rather have deadbolts...i bought them cause i was sick of brakes bending in half and breaking every weekend. at least deadbolts dont deploy when there not needed. and i had a pair of s914's...guess what?they broke.i had a pair of look px12jibs...guess what?they broke. i had a pair of rossi axial 120s...guess what? the heelpiece exploded when the brake deployed from landing switch. i bought deadbolts at beggining of season and it was the best choice ive ever made for bindings. not one single rpoblem to date with brakes,prerelease and not realeasing when i needed them. say what you want but they are damn solid.

no, all fks and p15/18s have the tight screw pattern. you'd probably be fine if you got a pivot binding.

Only ski I've ever heard having a problem tearing out of is the JP vs. Julien, and that's cause no one knows what the hell the core is made of, the Maple core on LINE's should be fine. And bigwhite_steeze, no offense, but aren't you like 5'6" and all of a buck twenty-five soaking wet?

eh ive gained a bit but i know im light but i go through bindings like hell...im pretty aggressive and ive been skiing since i was 2 so im no begginer.its not only weight that determins din.my shop set mine at 7 for me

Yeah, I wasn't calling you a beginner, I just know you're light and some of the heavier guys here might need something that's all metal and solid. I'm at 7 from the shop as well, even being heavier than you, BSL had alot to do with that.

i guess im a 10 at shops now, since i just got a pair mounted (im in a dorm, no space for power tools to do it myself), and i've had no problems with my vists on my JPs, and a plus is the vist/nord/4frnts have a nice, wide srew-pattern.

not necessarily true. Numerous people had rip out problems with their Lizzies and SFBs because they used the FKS.

Could be, I never heard about a big problem with it though, and a wider screw pattern doesn't necessarily mean they won't rip-out either...I had Scratch 120s (PX) on my JP's...ripped them out, and they have a pretty wide pattern. Conversely, I had the Pivot series on my Prophet 130s and had no problems with them.
And as far as brakes go...I've heard that the deadbolts have a good system, but that doesn't mean you can't break them...best thing is probably to just stop falling when you land swtich, that might take care of the issue.

in my opinion the weight bindings is too over rated. who cares if theyre heavier than another binding? its basically a one pound difference. if you dont buy the look bindings, ask yourself if it was worth buying bindings 1 pound lighter than the looks after you tear your acl

Yes, same amount of travel, but because it's acheived in a ver different manner it doesn't feel the same. And elastic travel isn't what makes a binding safer...the greater the travel the better chance you have of staying attached to your skis if you aren't totally effed. What made the Pivot series safer was the toe AND heel being able to release laterally in a twisting fall, whereas most other binding heels don't have that ability.

Movement bindings are out there too made my Vist. I haven't  heard anythign bad about they at all.

Pretty much, I'm not sure on the Sollys, I don't think the 916 has vertical toe release, don't know about the 914 though. I know the Look/Rossi bindings have it, except the 15 and 18 DIN racestock turntables, those only have lateral toe release.

i didn't take the time to read the whole thread, so i apologize if i repeat something...

s916's are bomb. super heavy, but they'll last you at least 3 pairs of skis. i've used 914's for a while, and they're pretty good (pretty lightweight), if you're cool with adjusting toe height every five minutes. rossi fks 150 and 180 are sick, as well as the look p18. you don't want your skis to fall off in the pow. that would suck ass to lose a bacon. get any of those i suggested and set your din at 12-14.
