crazy philosophys

you guys ever think about some weird philosophys that just make you go crazy for hours thinking about them.
like for instance if you went back in time and split your parents up so they wouldnt meet you wouldnt exist right? no you would because if you didnt exist you couldnt go back in time to stop them from meeting...
but if you were able to go back in time and split them up then what would happen to you? would you just vanish at the exact moment that your parents were seperated?

...or how bout':
you are thinking about something, anything, and the thinking is being done inside of your mind, are you actually thinking to yourself in a language that you are familiar with? you may be wondering if that language is english because you were taugt that since childhood but what actually might be is that that language is really some type of jiberish that you speak in when your mind translates it into english or any language that you are familiar with.
the question mainly is what language do you speek in?

The first is a paradox, just about any timetravel creates these self-defeating cycles.

I think you meant to say is 'what language do you think in'. Well, I think its the other way around. Your speach is comprised of thought, cognitive processes and ideas put to language. This is pretty obvious though. I think a good question to ask would be ''If someone were to never learn language or anyway of communicating to others, would they actually have the ability to 'think'?'' Not just instinct, cause/reaction stuff but actual thought.

mattster, a 'short' has to do with certain types of circuitry. When a circuit can't handle the amount of current within it, then the circuit 'shorts' out. Your brain will always be able to handle it's native current.

i think of the philosophy that we have no idea what is going on around us, because we cant see everything. We base almost everything on what we see, what if some1 tampers with that sense?

Our mind actually tampers with our seeing perception. In each eye there is a visual blind spot but the brain 'fills' in this blind spot.

Don't believe me? check this out . Try it yourself.

Also, look at a straw in a glass of water. When laying in the water, it appears bent. This it not true though, the straw is not bent but we percieve it to be.

For reasons like this, its tough to know if we can actually ever 'know' anything. Our mind is non-physical, our only link to the physical world outside of us are our senses. If these senses can be wrong, changed or false, how can we actually know anything?

My dad has this theory that aliens live among us, and they are basically just like us. Then it goes on to say that our family is the aliens because we are pretty different from everyone else we know. I usually just point and laugh. But sometimes I think he might be right.

my philosophy teacher told me that my mind is just a brain in a vat.

he said i think that i have the ability to do, say, learn, whatever i want. but really i am being controlled by society and everyone else around me.

that one had me thinking for awhile, and sadly its true.

another one that screwed me up for a good week or two is creation.
so many different possibilities weather your religious or not, and i find it funny that all of the ones that have to do with religions cant be proven, and yet this is what society is almost forced to believe.

How about this. If everything in the universe was created in a 'big bang' then where did the stuff come from to make this explosion possible???? and what if there was no big bang. Then there would be NOTHING! NOTHING IN EXISTANCE! And if god creates us, then what created god? how did he come into existence? heheh

This one's kinda weird. What if everybody is perceiving the world in a totally different way. You obviously think it isn't true because of the way things work out, but the person you think of as your girlfriend could be thinking of you as somebody kidnapping her and her words mean things that you take in as loving words even though she hates you. Or there's one person who is actually using this site to talk about skiing, and that's you, and all the rest are using it as government things or whatever and we just all understand words and gestures differently and this is a true theory and you're the only one who understands it cause the rest of us think it's top secret info. or the directions to a swimming pool in Reno. If you get it, it's weird. If you don't, it's because I did a very shitty job of explaining.

I mean, I know my theory thing isn't true, but it's still weird to think about. You could be the one person who enjoys skiing and others just consider it work or whatever. This whole theory is basically based on everybody perceiving EVERYTHING in the world differently from anybody else.

i've always wondered if i was in a coma and if i would snap out of it and wake up and be some weird looking kid who jsut sits on ns.com and smokes pot. man that would suck.

Or what if we just keep reliving the same day and our memories are just put in our head each time we wake up. Some days I just spend like a few seconds thinking 'I'm experiencing this for sure. It's real.' Then the next day I think to myself what if that was fake and it was just a memory put in my head as I continue to relive this day again and again. You should try. Convince yourself this day is real, then tomorrow tell yourself it wasn't.

Did you know that bees can see a color that we can't see and it's what attracts them to pollen? It's so weird to think that we can't see a color that exists. Our minds can't comprehend that color no matter how hard we try, so it's as if it isn't even there. What I want to know though, is how they know bees can see that color. Did they ask one or something?

i have a form of colorblindness, so i always wonder about the color stuff...like what if everyone has a different color pallete? and we just are taught what to call different colors, so we call them the same thing, but we actually see them differently

i've always thought the hardest thing in the world would be explaining the concept of colour to a blind dude. like he'd ask what green looked like and you'd be like, well its... green. or what a blind dude actually sees. like is like when you close your eyes and its just black or is it sort of 'nothing', and what does that nothing look like. and if it is just black, does the blind dude know its black??? and isnt it weird when you close your eyes and push on your eyelid and you see all those colours?

gravtec, your saying that the big band didnt create matter? We started with NOTHING and ended up with all kinds of stuff, stuff is made of matter. So the theory says the big bang created matter. But that violates many laws of physics ( Law of Conservation of Matter). Even if your saying matter came from nothing, still violates the law of conservation of matter, 'matter cannot be created or destroyed'. and if you say that law is incorrect, then pretty much half of 'physics' fall's apart.

That thing about their being a blindspot that your eyes cant see, and your mind filing in what should be there. whoa that was cool.
Yeah, i always wondered about the color thing too. Or how my voice sounds to others. Cause you can hear your voice when you speak, but does it really sound the same to others. Like deaf people talk funny, but they dont know they are talking funny. They THINK they sound perfectly normal, but they dont... craziness

the big bang theory states that the universe was created from a single, tiny point of light matter compacted together that exploded. the matter was always there. heavier elements were later formed through fusion reactions in stars.

its not like there was just an explosion and all kinds of matter came from nowhere.

I thought this one up myself. If there is a rock in the forest, and no one sees it, there are no cameras, no sattelites on it, does it really exist? there would be no proof that it exists. If you turn around and see that rock, it exists, but if you turn back around, it might not be there, like, the world might just be like Age Of Empires, where you can only do things if your character can see it. If no one or nothing can see it, it is not there.

I end up almost in pain trying to think about what it will be like if I die, will i be sitting in my coffin thinking for the rest of my life? or will i be floating around in heaven skiing down clouds? will i be able to come down and watch my friends? ........... or............. blinking, you dont really notice that your blinkingbut you are, or else your eyes will dry out, but if you sit down at a table with a pen and paper, and put a check for everytime you blink sometimes you go into a blinking fit, or your body wont blink by itself, you have to do it........ OOORRRRR........
is your body controlled by something?just sit with your hand on your lap and think about moving your hand up onto the computer mouse. it doesnt move by itself. but if you think about what your lookign at you can still move oyu hand up, you dont have to really think about moving you hand.....OOOOOOOOOOOO RRRRRRRRRR.... ...... think what would ahppen if you had to think about your lungs inhaling and exhaling, would you be able to think about a math question as well as you can do without haveing to have your attention to wheter you are breathing or not? try it, try to solve this ( 9 x (9+2) every 1 second... 1 second inhale,1 second, exhale.... its hard

theres lots of theories, but a popular big bang theory from what I understand is: the universe started from a point of matter that was always there. something, nobody reallys knows what, set it off. the universe expands from the explosion and is still expanding today. eventually the force of the explosion wears off and the universe contracts back to a little point of matter and could potentially explode again, giving birth to another universe. thats a simple explanation, not taking into account other universes, dimensions, time and space all that crap that only an astrophysicist would want to bother with.

^^way up there, the big bang thing, the big bang didnt create matter, think of like when you drop something and i makes an impact, all of that force stretches out, and then comes back to the center, when it all reaches that center (orgin of big bang) then the gases and everything heats up, and from the heat and pressure, eventually it cant contain it, and it explodes, and the cycle begins again

Whoever posted about a straw looking bent in water, it is nothing to do with a blindspot'. It's because water has a different index (I can't remember the name of the property) than air.

they say after you die you still have 6-12 minutes of brain activity in a dream-like state. i know some of my dreams that are really long and elaborate happen in a short time, like 1 or 2 minutes. makes me wonder if im just dreaming and im dead.
