i'm thinking of volenteering to join a trail cutting crew this summer, basically they live in the backcountry and cut and maintain trails for a week or two, sounds fun/good for colledge, anyone ever done this?

yeah. i was in the montana conservation corps two summers ago. it was awesome. we were based out of bozeman, but had projects all over the state. most of the time we were in the backcountry, sometimes for up to 13 days. got to see so many sweet areas. and getting paid to backpack is hard to beat. there was one hitch where we supposed to be out there for 12 days, and we got all our work done in the first 3 days, so we had all that time to climb around the mountains, fish and swim in the lake we were camped on, we even built a raft out of downed trees. and we were getting paid! the pay isnt great- it was actually considered a volunteer position, but they gave you a living stipend of about 400 bucks every two weeks. it was a killer summer. i would reccomend it for sure.
