Scratch BCs

I can get a pair of scratch bcs (yellow ones) for $499 cdn, but I havent tried them before. Im skiing on the old black and white head mad trix and its time for some new skis.. Im looking for something light (the mad trix are heavy as hell) and something less stiff than the mad trix, but not noodle soft either. I ski about 60% off piste (maybe a little more) and 40 on, im looking for a powder ski that has some good pop for when I am in the park. Do the bcs match what im looking for?? What other skis are there that might fit what im looking for? Also.. whats the difference between the wrs (yellow bcs), the brigades, and the sprayers?

sprayers are a less sophisticated construction (no WRS which is rossis weight reduction system) - they are effectively the same as the old scratch bc's f 02-05, and they are narrower (88 at the waist). still a dope ski, but not as good in pow, where the bc wrs excells.

brigades - actually i dont know what ur talking about with those. i must have missed something.

bottom line, if u ride 60% off piste, theyll be a rockin ski. you can mount them a little fwd of recomended centre and ridem in the park (see rory bushfield) and theyre light enough to throw around.

others you could look at would be 1080 gun, line prophet 100, armada jp vs julian, hell, every manufacturer has a ski in that 100ish at the waist powder/all mountain board.

and for the most part they all rock on piste as well, obv not lightening edge to edge, but still shitloads of fun, esp when the snowin gets soft.

K2 seths buddy, its got tones of side so you can shred te groomers and anywhere else, floats nice in the pow, and also isnt too bad on the tables in the park.

In a word, yes. They'll feel damn light after your MTs. Great skis in their own right though, those things were.

i love my BCs and i would highly recommend them for ur specifications
they work extremely well in powder, and then i could take them into the park and they were light enough for me to spin and jib.
but im a strong guy so i dont know if this will be the same for everyone

Brigades are the 08 model, and I think they're a little wider.  I'm not certain, though.

I have the BC WRS and they sound perfect for what you are looking for. I ride almost identical to what you are saying you do and they are amazing skis. Great on groomers and in the park. They are actually just as good in the park as my old 04/05 FS' and they are better everywhere else. Brigades are just next years version with a better name. I would definitely reccomend this ski, you wont be disappointed.

Ok, so i bought a pair of 178cm's @ mad dogs today for $399 cdn new, a pretty good deal i think considering they were $800 skis @ the beginning of the season. Im really stoked, but now i have to wait till next season to use em
They have two suggested mounting points, my question is, should i mount them @ the standard point, or at the modern point which is a bit closer to centre?

yeah they will defently do what you want, thats what i have and i ski about 60% percent of offpiste to so they will rock

Everybody says that those skis rock - they would be my first choice for a next pair of skis and I would definitely recommend them to you seeing as you ski a decent amount off-piste. $499 is a good deal...

I'd suggest standard line, this way you will have enough tip length, lesser tip length will decrease your high end speed.

YO Definitely mount them at modern if you like to ride switch at all. It'll be sick, for real. Personally I'd mount them 2 back from center...

Im still torn between modern and standard, and I have to make a decision soon, any more ideas?
Im worried modern will leave too little tip for powder, but standard will make it hard to spin and ride switch

think of it like this... you could mount at standard and float easy forwards and sucky switch... or you could mount at modern and have not that much noticible difference skiing forwards, but will make it loads better skiing backwards.  like someone said above, i would mount at -2 cm from dead center, but that's just how i like my skis.  mount at the modern line... you won't regret it.

well.. i called them up and they mounted it standard already, so hopefully it wont be too bad

So in a pic like this, are the skis modern or standard mounted?

definately go with modern, i have them, and it skis great forward in pow and really nice on piste and spinning on them is a breeze.
they work very nice switch they carve better than my chronics do switch and my chronics are 2 back from center. u can really feel the edge hold because of the sidecut in the tail

++you could even mount them -2 from true centre for switch and still be OK in powder -- I did that w/ my K2 PEs and they were fine -- you just ride the tails a little more, and now you've got acres of tail to spray around. I haven't mounted my BC WRS either but I am tending to Modern as I want them to be primarily an off-piste ski and not a park-oriented pair. The question is whether you ride switch in pow or want them to really perform as b/c booter ski or want an off-piste big mountain ski. They'll do both.

Man, Mad Dog's, that's an oldskool lower mainland store... kick ass.

positive those are modern mount.

i have the 06 model and its great everywhere, very stable, really great multi-tool.

i think its perfect for what you want to use it for.

probs modern...if you don't like it you could remount them, but you can only remount skis 3 times before they're shot...

you will prob have no problems with them because they have a traditional sidecut average flex patteren and arent to fat.

you're going to be stoked. such an awesome ski. getting a pair next season (brigade or steeze). i would have mounted them further up, but they're still going to be super duper fun skiing forward.

bc's are way too stiff in the tails, they suck. the brigades are the same shape but softer which would make them quite good. and scratch sprayers are the best park ski ever made.

i have these skis and they are sick.. way nice in pow and yes they still pop. not too siff, they do what you want them to do and more in park.. and they are super stompy on landings.

So i just got these today and already noticed two descripancies. One, I measured with a measuring tape and the 185s are actual 184.... no biggie. I checked the mounting marks and the Modern lines are off from one another by .5cms.

Moral of the story, measure the ski and make your own mounting lines, don't go off of what's on there.

i faced the same mounting issue when i got my scratch fs's and imma go with standard because there's not a ton of difference in park, but you can feel it in the turns (from what i hear)
