its from his mogul days, if you watch videos of him as a kid he used to ski moguls tons. he just grew up like that and used it on the jumps. better question though, why does sean decker do it?

Seeing him do that on Chads Gap was ridiculous.

A while back when I looked up how to do 3's (cuz i suck (in the park) and i ski like 5-9 days a year) it told me to plant my pole into the lip. It probably works as an adaption to arial apres ski. It probably can boost a spin a 3 more when done right.

i think its cause it makes you more consistent setting for spins but to me it feels kind of awkward

i think you're retarded.. it is the opposite of creativity, it is how 'freestyle' skiers are taught to jump.. and on straight airs they plant with both poles.. its retarded..

does it really help stabilize you before a jump?

not anymore they don't. He came from a different era, but as someone who grew up with a freestyle background most of us are taught not to pole plant esp with spins because it is easier get off balance or off axis. the original purpose of a pole plant was to make sure that u had a balanced take off that u werent in the back seat

He probably learned it from moguls, thats what is taught, so that you are balanced and going in the right direction when you spin.

yeah, he does it every single time. mogul skiers are taught to do 3 pt or 4 pt take offs so they are square and get the best pop off the kickers. probly just how he learned to do it.

He does the FIS sanctioned four point take off, 4 point landing?
Why the hell else do you think he always cleans up any contest he's ever entered?...
I love the fact he even does them in the halfpipe...!

He does it as a reminder that he has to land eventually, even though he could easily break into orbit.
