VTO... fucking rip off?

i don't understand where all the money goes they make about 60,000+ just from registration (approx. 250 competitors for slope is $37,500 paying $150 for entry. and approx. 150 people for pipe paying the same nets $22,500. there could have been more people i am just trying to ballpark it so cut me some slack if you have the correct numbers.) the purse was claimed at something like $27,000... so where is the other 33,000 going? god knows we don't have to pay for the cource to get built and that isn't includng any money from sponsors! which i'm sure is substantial enough to cover the purse (rainvilles big air check says that bulla shelled out the cash for it) WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS WHY THEY TREAT THE ATHLETES LIKE SHIT WHILE MAKING ALL OF THIS MONEY?

F.Y.I.- the rails to riches was one third the cost of the vto to enter. first place was also almost double what first was at the vto. (they also had to build their own cource, i also understand it was a rail jam setup versus a slopstyle cource but still they had to pay for it.)

yea their purse is deifnately too small...but there probably is alot of costs you don't know about....but i see your point

you're retarded if you think that money doesn't go towards things like building the course, paying employees to run it, etc. I think the purses were plenty appropriate.

you're retarded if you think they spend well over 33 grand paying employees to yell at kids for no reason for a long weekend on a cource that already exists.

the course is left over from the us open which is built by burton who also foots the bill and they use their own equipment..... so i think you're the one who's "retarded"

i agree with the point of this thread we had to pay a shitload of money and got treated like second class when in reality without people like us (the competitors) events like this would never happen, we're the main reason that so much money is made at these events

$150.. for 5 days lift ticket for my kid to hang with all his friends is a bargain. Being able to compete is a bonus.  All depends on how you value things.

the best part was the park crew refused to work after the train. athletes had to salt and shit themselves.

exactly. if you are holding a well known high level comp, which the VTO is, the athletes should be the top priority. the better they are treated and catered to, the more will come and perform better, which means more money from entry fees, and a better show which will attract more spectators.

Building the course costs hundreds of thousands of dollars. Even though it was built for the US Snowboarding Open, Stratton is able to pay in advance knowing they will see more money come back thanks to our event. There are costs to maintain the courses too throughout the event, and other employees to pay. More of the money goes to the Stratton's insurance carrier, who wouldn't allow the event to go on without upping the costs of the insurance. It's expensive, granted... but reasonable once all said and done.

Not to say the event went smoothly... because it didn't. I just thought you should know where the money goes.
