Why do some people wear no helmets. Mine has saved my ass so many times its ridiculous, and they dont even look bad anymore. Just gimme some thought on why you dont want to wear a helmet.
well for me spinning 8 feet over a halfpipe wall or over a 50' table with a hat is a bit sketchier since you can feel the wind going through your hair and everything... but thats just me
yeah i love my domepiece its siiiiick. headphones lightiweght tooo. plus its saved my head about 23749 times.. i hadda apoxi it back together cause i got mad and threw it at a tree and foam all broke and fell out
nice thread nathan, I think helmets are a must for anybody skiing hard even out of the park, I recently came off a small cliff and plowed into a tree head first, I would have been picking bark out of my skull if it had not been for my trusty helmet, wear them!
it saves my ass for stupid shit too, like the other day i was gettin on the lift and i sat down a little late and the top bar thing nailed me in the head, that wouldve hurt like a bitch if i didnt have my helmet on
helmets have saved my life more then once and they reallyu arnt tht bad if you have good ventillation. and if its spring dont wear anything under it, its fine
The same for me, the helmet actually makes me ski worse. It weighs my head down and I feel like I have a bowl on my head. Without it I can concentrate more clearly and as a result fall less. I noticed when I wore a helmet, the safety feeling it gave me caused me to fall. Without it my mind is much more focused on not falling.
Snowboarders should wear helmets since they are so much more likely to hit their heads. On skis I always come down on my shoulders and rarely, if ever, hit my head. Wearing a helmet because you go inverted does no make much sense either since its you neck you need to worry about much more than you head. Skulls are thick, necks break.
i got the giro omen for my trip up to bromley and startton when i skied in some pow and glades. now i just wear it whenever i ski cuz i feel more confident and am willing to try harder stuff knowing that if i screw up and hit m head i wont be retarted for the rest of my life
Yep. I misjudged a sketch bc mtn line, lost it over some rocks and ended up rolling through some trees. When I came to, I was covered in blood and the top part of my ear looked like it had been Mike Tyson'd by a tree branch. My bro went and got a sled and took me to an ER where they put 15 stitches in my ear with my head strapped to the table. Since then it's been helmet like a soldier for me, especially in the park or bc. If you're so good you don't need a helmet, truth is your just lucky so far.
I wear mine when I'm hitting decent sized jumps or in a comp or something. I also wear one when I know I'm gonna be hitting cliffs. Otherwise I just rock a hat.
i never wear a helmet cuz my hat is more comfortable and i can take my goggles off easily, also i never really wale my head, the key is to stick your sholders up and pull your head in and just let you head hit the snow, never try to keep your head from hitting the ground, thats exactly how you create wiplash and get a concussion on the smallest falls, if your good at skiing and falling you really dont need a helmet at all. and a side note, anyone who wears a burn helmet is fucking retarded because they arent even made to protect your head, what a waiste of head space
I wear my helmet most of the time, but on some spring days I rock it with a hat or just goggles. Its fun to dick around in, but I don't do anything serious without my good old hard hat.
The only time i dont wear a helmet is when teaching. Otherwise i always have one on, im scared to do a rail without one for some reason it just seems like a pole+head= bad but thats just me
Heres why I almost always wear a helmet. Its not because I do dangerous shit and crazy high risk lines (well, part of the reason, maybe), but because of other people.
I dont trust anyone skiing around me. When I fall, I usually have some amount of control, and can try to minimize the risk to myself. I can also be really careful in dangerous areas. But one thing I cant plan on is some dumbass screaming down the hill into my back when I'm lazily skiing down a groomer.
Yes, rocks, trees, rails and decking out on an icy pipe can fuck you up bad. But a snowboard edge to the face or back of the head sounds a lot worse. Thus, I wear a helmet because of other people. And even if the resort was empty, I'd still wear one, just because of the dangerous shit I do. Its not that I dont have confidence in my ability, its just that I know I'll fall and nail my head sooner or later.
But thats just me, and I'm sure someone out there has a great reason not to wear one.
yea good point. i have been hit so many times even when im just waiting on the side of the park, almost in the woods. I almost broke my arm due to a kid nailing me when i fell on a rail although i have yet to be hit in the head.
people don't understand but this is a big plus to the gangsta style NS loves to hate. If you look like a gangsta people know they're going to get fucked up if they cross you so they keep their distance. I've seen it firsthand when frightened gapers avoid me, a tall tee protects you more from other people than a helmet ever will.
Are you trying to say that everyone knows if you look like a g you are most likely on the verge of a yardsale? Cuz I don't think anyone is afraid of your potential to beat someone up. Watch out for kiddies cuz their Dads will kick your ass.
no you fool, what I'm trying to say is some little bitch will think twice about getting in your way. Since people ski or snowboard further from me they are much less likely to collide with me when my back is turned or cut me off from a jump or box.
The kiddies better watch for me cause if any one gets in my way they're better off dead. My gat will fuck someone up better than any 45 year old deadbeat.
Damn you are so STREET man! Shit who do I have to rat-a-tat w a gat to run w yo bomb-ass click? I think I'm worthy, check it: All my clothes are XXL and I'm about 5'9, so they fuckin drown me. Tons of places to hide weed/gats/crack when yo steezy like that. We be ballin up in the park everyday bitch, holdin it down. When I see a kids ridin near me I'm like WHAT, and then they're like,"um nothing, this is my first time in the park, got any tips?" and I'm like,"yeah, howbout the tip of my ski up your ass fool!" then my crew goes,"OOoooooo snap!" We keep shit tight like that.
You kno I'm high till I die and I gotta have my rap at all times nigris. I got my G-Unit all day in the park and I keep it flowin in my whip, bumpin that shit all the way to the grocery store in my parents minivan.
It ain't easy bein a G, so don't come skiin near ME.
Some days Il be feeling a bit edgy about a line/cliff/rail/jump/what ever we are doing that day and Il rock my helmit. Other days I just wont want to wear one, so I wont. I do find that when i wear a helmit I get some more confidence, mostly cause i think I can fall harder with out getting hurt
Helmets are so uncomfy, I am used to a hat, gosh! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH WTF holy shit man, its head gear get over it, its not like it will affect you at all other then if your that unstable mentally. Look at all kinds of pros who never used to wear helmets but made the switch, Seth never used to but he always rocks max protection now. I dont care if you think "I never hit my head, or it wont protect my neck". Go get another concussion then respond to what this thread is about. SHIT
steve young only had 6 concusions and he had to retire before he got another. i dont think its possible to have 11 legit concussions without being slightly retarted.
The degree of a concussion makes a huge difference. I personally have had 3 concussions. Only one that was serious. The 6 that young had were hard core concusions. Pro football players suffer minor concussions all the time.
