Why do some people wear no helmets. Mine has saved my ass so many times its ridiculous, and they dont even look bad anymore. Just gimme some thought on why you dont want to wear a helmet.
if you haven't worn one your whole life that you've been skiing (remember some people here are over 20 and have been skiing since they were 2) its kind of just habit to wear a hat and anything different would feel weird.
i wear a helmet but when im just dickin around i like wearing a hat cause its soo much more comfortable and not heavy at all....completly different feeling. but when im doing jumps i wear helmsts
I've had a couple good hits to my head that I'm thankful my helmet was there. But you usually don't realise how much better it is until you rock yourself with out it on. First day one of my trips and I left my bucket at the hotel by accident. I was good the whole day until I fucked up on an s box at the end of the day. The tail of my ski just skull fucked me like peter north. Good gash on the back of my head where my helmet would have been.
Ive been wearing it a lot more lately, though I dont fall a whole lot, there is def a few times that I have been VERY glad that I was wearing it, and some that I really wish I was. Sometimes I go helmetless, but my helmet doesnt have ear things and my head gets hot so its ideal for hot park days, so whatev. its also not heavy at all,not compaired to old race helmets.
I dont know why you wouldnt wear one. If you ski in a ski area, you should wear one not because of the consequences of falling, but to protect yourself from other people colliding with you. I've seen people get really fucked up from hitting other people, skis and boards connecting with the head... not good.
Out in the BC, you should probably rock one as well, especially if you're dropping stuff that has potentially dangerous consequences. I'd much rather roll over rock in a helmet than a hat, and getting swept into a tree field in an avalanche would be no good, but worse even still without a helmet.
The only time I dont wear one is when I'm goofing around on summer jumps. And I dont go for new shit doing that stuff anyways.
If im skiing big mountain and not planning to hit big cliffs or something or if i just plan to jib around, ill wear a hat. Otherwise, jumps + cliffs = helmet.
my mom made me get one recently, but before that I just rather wore a beanie. Probably good to wear one getting into jibbing though. Luckily I never fall while skiing, only snowboarding.
I think I started wearing one around age six. Around age 11 or 12 I decided helmets were gay and decided to stop wearing it. Knocked myself out the first day without a helmet. Went back to my helmet the next day. I've only not worn a helmet a few times since then.
I am thinking of getting one in the future as I get older or have kids or something maybe. I've never sustained head injury on the slopes so thats probably why I don't wear one yet, never rode with one my whole life and really don't even like them at the skate park either. The only time I wear one is on the road on a motorcycle, and I can't see doing that without one. I guess there is a little bit off extra gnar/danger factor to riding anything bucketless. That must be why people ride streetbikes without em right? I mean that has got to count for something. Why shovel your stairs under an urban feature, it's only for added danger factor right??
ive only just started wearing helmets even though i rarely hit my head. idk it feels more secure to go big wearing a helmet. kinda peace of mind and that shit. thats the only reason i wear mine. also if youre bushwackin in the glades, branches dont snag helmets.
I'm 33 and back in the day no one was wearing helmets. I must admit that it is better to wear a helmet if your skiing some difficult terrain with alot of rocks, trees and cliffs.
not really, my mom, dad, and most of my aunts and uncles have started wearing helmets in the past 5 years, and they have been skiing their whole lives without them. Im 17 and now I feel weird riding without one.
^^ not to be or sound like a dick, but i have arguments with my pops on this a lot when he gives me the sonny bono scenario. Did your friend become paralyzed from a head injury or a neck or back injury? I'm sure a helmet would help regardless, but thats not to say it will stop a spinal injury from taking a header into a tree in the glades or landing square on your head off a jump right?? Mad props to anyone paralyzed from skiing I'm sure they were going bigger than i ever have, but its not like a helmet will stop all paralyzing injuries is all I'm saying.
There are a lot of good looking, safe helmets these days, and next year there will be a ton more. Only took me about 3 runs to get used to mine, so comfy and keeps me from getting fucked up.
helmets can get annoying, but now days helmets are so much less annoying, in fact i dont think there annoying at all, but seriusly, would you rather have a slightly annoying helmet, or not wear a helmet and fall, and then have a really annoying concusion
my parents are forcing me to get one next year. i didn't do anything to warrant one this year but they saw me slide a rail and they said i have to get one. i'm not against it though, i'm gonna need it
earlier this year i was skiing at blue and theonly run i didn't wear at hat i fell totally sideways, and rocked my head on the rail, soooo bad, if i was wearing a hat i would be fucked up right now, its weird cause it was the first run after i changed to have a helmet on......it makes you think...now i always wear a helmet unless im just skiing the groomers
My parents got me one like 5 years ago, and it just seems natural, i don't feel awkward at all. My helmet strap smelled like cheese though... Until i washed it
ya thats what i do. if i know im just going to be skiing at my local hill and not going int he park then i dont really bother. but if i know im going to be messing around in the park or on other shit then i wear one
i love my helmet. with the speakers now i would rather wear it. plus like you said it has saved my head so many times. although every once in a while i wish my parents would let me wear a hat...=[ they say ill kill myself haha
