i love how you think you have to prove something to me because i dissagree with you.
i'll admit it takes more athletic ability than i thought. I was wrong, maybe it is a sport, but i still think (and this, you wont change my opinion on) that it is pretty damn boring to watch. You have changed my opinion (not you but NS in general). It is a sport, but it is not the same type of sport as basketball, football, and all the other sports that are in constant action.
i disagree, but i wont get into that now. Just think of pro baseball vs Pro (racing i mean, not freestyle) skiing. if you know anything about the athletic ability of skiers, you will probably change your opinion. I am not getting into this argument now though.
I agree with you that it is amazingly boring to watch, but a sport is a sport. There arent different kinds of sports. You need athletic ability to play every sport out there.
What is a sport by definition? It's hard to catagorize, if you say its a competitive game with a ball than golf is a sport, if its a competitive game that requires althetisism then skiings a sport.
alright here we go. sorry to change the topic, but you want it so here you are.
have you seen how much pro ski racers train? they train all year round, they train every part of their body so they are in pristine condition. Try racing a downhill going close to 90 MPH (or however insanley fast they ski now a days) and try standing up when your done. you will literally fall over because you are so damn tierd. Now think of doing that all day for training... Ski racing is a damn hard sport. Its not the same as skiing groomers all day. Downhill is nuts. People go by the gates at 80 MPH (again i dont know the exact speed, but when i raced i got clocked one time at 55 MPH in super g, so the pro ski racrers must be going wayyy faster). imagine hitting plastic with your arm going that fast, keeping your balane, then flying off a little knoll (or whaleback, whatever you call it) and landing 50 feet down the hill in mid turn with all of your weight and then some pushing down on your legs.
of course, like in the other thread (that i got shit on) old people with little atheltic ability and skill can ski. they suck at it but they can still ski. Old people with little athletic ability and skill can also play baseball, but it wont be near the level of pro baseball, just like the old skiers are nowhere near the level of pro skiers
If thats the case than UFC is a sport. A UFC fighter probably trains harder than anybody anywhere. Try having a 200lb guy laying on top of you punching/elbowing you in the face for 5-15 mins. Just because they train their asses off and get their asses kicked doesnt mean its a sport.
so are you saying Boxing isnt a sport? i dont know much about UFC, so if im compleatly wrong, then im sorry, but it seems similar to boxing (except way more badass because there seems to be less rules).
It's like boxing, in the sense that people grapple and punch eachother in the face, but you can kick, footstomp, and take down people in UFC (and it is alot more badass). Personally I love Boxing but it's definantly not a sport.
i never said they dont... i just said that skiers do, and from what i know/what was in the thread before, skiers training sounds like its more intense (but i could be wrong)
If there is a ball/balls involved than it is a sport. That being said, baseball is a sport cause you use a ball to throw, catch, and hit. Skiing is also a sport because you use your own personal balls...yep
Hell yes baseball is a sport. A sport is anything that is competitive. Ever hear of sport fishing, or how about a spelling bee, you don't NEED to use physical abilities for it to be a sport, it just so happens that people get really competitive when it come down to who is physical better, cause its a very debatable subject.
If the skill required to do something at the highest levels exceeds the athleticism required, it's a game. If the other way around, it's a sport. Golf and Baseball are games. Anyone who doesn't think Boxing is a sport is a retard.
It's def a sport, hitting a round object moving at 90+ mph with a round bat is very difficult, even the pros only succeed roughly 2 out 10 times. And in response to 1080ski's other thread golf is a sport too, in fact one of the most difficult in my opinion
i just think it is rather stupid to have another thread saying just the opposite of a thread before it
well all discussed whether baseball was a sport or not in the other one. there is no point for this thread
that is what i think
so you define a sport as being able to do something that's extremely difficult? in that case, shitting off a building into a bowl must be a sport too.
of course baseball is a sport, but not because 'hitting a round object moving at 90+ mph with a round bat' is difficult.. it's because it requires some level of physical fitness and athletic ability to perform at a high level, and it entertains people to watch.
dude i have a bunch of friends that are all sponsored racers and are going onto the canadian team and shit and mostly they train during the winter..during the summer they go to like 1 summer camp at whistler and then like catskiing for a couple of days during summer on glaciers...not THAT intense
the definition from dictionary.com 1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
baseball is a sport, that has influenced nearly every sport in existance today. Whether or not you like it, you have to have respect for it. If you don't you're un-American.
no, no and no. there are plenty of overweight pitchers, but i cant think of one fat hockey player. ill agree that its probably insanely difficult to play baseball at a high level (hitting a baseball thats going over 80 is probably the hardest thing ive ever tried), but its such a boring game, why would you want to?
Holy shit. Same argument as the other thread. You can break any sport down like that. Why would you ever want to play hockey, it's only hitting a piece of rubber across ice? Why would you want to play soccer, it's just kicking a ball? Geez that is boring!-e-sarcasim- Just everybody quit bitching because you don't like baseball.
