NS,
In a few months I will be selling my '99 Nissan Altima SE Limited, in order to buy a tuner car with manual transmission. (my altima is automatic.)
In your opinion, what is the best car to buy at a good price (under $6,000usd), and tune-up the engine?
I want something with a V6 engine and front-wheel drive.
So far I am thinking about..
-Toyota Eclipse
-Honda Accord V6
-Acura Integra
Please post with any suggestions.
It does not have to be one of the 3 i listed.

if you want "preformance", wtf would you want fwd for? seriously, fwd cars suck for actual preformance. theres a reason every single race car, in every single discipline is rwd or awd.

There are all kinds of good fwd cars, i just invited you to the car cult where you will get a more educated opinion. Fyi the integra is a 4 cylinder, and the accord is a pain in the ass to work on, and doesn't have to much aftermarket support. I would look at sticking with a 4 banger and a smaller lighter car that will turn like crazy instead of a car with a small v6 jammed in it.

yes. there are. however, the preformance level of GOOD, solid fwd sports cars caps off fairly low. cars like GTIs, Integra Rs, etc. are limited. i had a turbocharged GTI, and it was an awesome awesome car. however, despite handling great and being very quick at a fairly stock level, the handling dynamics of a fwd car are very limited, and the more power you put into them, the worse they get. seriously, there are tons of great rwd cars for your price. my buddy got a BALLER ass 89 porsche 924 for 2400, in perfect shape, absolute mint. then theres cars like 240SX, 300s (any Z car), old porsches like 924/928, mazda mx 6, etc etc etc, which you could all turn into some pretty fun cars. then theres all the AWD cars out there too. trust me, DO NOT GET FWD if you want a preformance car.

tell me you didnt just say toyota eclipse? and integras are all 4 cylinders. you get a VTAK teg and it will fly. you jsut have to do the right shit to it. a guy i know had a turbo'd b16 which is a 1.6 liter vtec honda that ran 10.31 1/4 mile

my one bud has that exact car. SUPER nice. however, a word of advice on VWs/Audis. as awesome as they are, and as much as i loved mine, they are expensive to work on. just keep that in mind. expensive, like 70 bucks for the CHEAPEST brake pads you can get. and most other parts (at least OEM) are like that. if you plan on upgrading stuff, and replacing/upgrading as things break, then you wont be too bad.
awesome cars, they feel soooo solid and well built.

get a b5 audi a4 1.8t
97-01 is best style, and once you drive an awd car youll never drive anything else. there slow but if you put a k04 in them and tune good they can be made pretty fast. not cheap in any way though

a really cheap car for high performace would be a nissan 300zx z32 twin turbo, it is really fast real wheel drive, coupe, and a nissan to stay witht he japanese name, and if you are gonna get stuff done to it you can get a lot of parts from 300zx.com or z1 performance, but if you are looking for a car with fron wheel drive i would get a vw jetta vr6

if u want a V6 like u said, look into the older MK3 VW gti/jetta vr6's.If ur lucky and u look hard enough find a VW corrado vr6 1995. Such a sick/rare car

Mitsubishis have crazy transmission/electronic issues, and hondas have NO torque if you want FWD get a VW, if you want AWD get a subie or an audi, RWD bmw (e30) 240sx (s13)

Ahh beat me to it. Yea In terms of what you are describing a Corrado would be sick. The SLC has the v6 and the g60 has like a 1.6l supercharged 4. They are still one of the best handling fwd cars ever produced and I think they look pretty sick. Only problem with them is repairs seem very expensive, and reliability wise they seem finicky, lots of electrical probs.
If you just want all out bang for the buck performance one of your best options is probably a mustang. I am not a fan of american cars at all besides Vettes but Mustangs are cheap and they have a big V8 and rwd.

If you can find one for your price, an Eclipse GSX or GS-T. Any DSM for that matter. Definatly you're best bet for 6k. But what kind of tuning are you planning on doing? Drag, autocross, etc?

If you are set on getting a V6 do not get the audi. a V6 A4 in your pricee range would almost have to be an AFC engine (which is known as the 12v(1996-1997)or if your lucky you could find a 30V (1998-2002) The only major performance mod for the 12v engine is custom made parts such as the MAF, bored out throtle body, etc. They only parts for the 30V is a 5K supercharger made by PES. If you want an Audi and want to mod it get a 1.8T and save up for a ko4 turbo swap. otherwise get a VW. I saw a Corrado with a VR6 swap for sale in Anderson the other week but I can't find it right now.

FWD is garbage unless it's a VW. You can buy an old GTi (pre 1990 is okay still) and completely break down and rebuild the powertrain, or if it's in good shape, you can easily squeeze in a T25 or T3/4 based turbo for under the $6k mark. Theyre absolutely bulletproof cars and the only decent handling FWD car I've driven because of their light weight and handling balance. Steering is great and with aftermarket brakes it's auto-cross worthy. Super cheap to own, tune, and repair, and even decent in snow with some blizzaks up front.

i wouldn't go for a g60, they r slow as hell, and are soo much mroe unreliable than the vr6. The g60 tends to have much mroe electrical problems. But yeah, one of my favortie cars next to a b5 s4

There is nothing wrong with FWD cars, yes often cheaper cars are fwd but that doesnt mean that all fwd cars suck, there are advantages and disadvantages to each and for skiers gasp, fwd are often better in the snow then rwd. I have both, and admit I prefer rwd when my car is sliding etc and for the 1/4 milr but on the track my fwd car handled way better

but when someone is suping an accord then there is a problem with that.
you like rwd in the snow better?
