our quad is like 5 feet long, why put the saftey bar down. has anyone else noticed this? the weird thing is that, people always think that everyone puts the bar down, so they don't bother to ask, and then it hits you in the back of the head (if you are tall). people are maniacs, dude.

at my resort no one puts the bar down except the gapers and our bars have things that touch the actual seat so their is a big chance you can lose a nut when some one slams the bar down its fucking gay

Im not gonna lie.. i always put the bar down
Me and my mate had a bad experience on an old fixed chair tripple. we didnt put the bar down and there is this point where the chair passes over this valley part. its about 25/30 metres off the ground. so we're just passing over this part when the lift stops. now when this lift stops, it stops. no mucking around here, the fucking thing stops in an instant. this results in mad swingage. so we're sitting there, the lift slams to a halt , next instant we're looking straight down at this massive drop, both of us grab at the back of the seat and hold on.
so yeah we always put the bar down now, even on the detachable chair lifts that dont come slamming to a halt. you're no cooler if you leave the bar up its there for a reason, so use it.
and i agree its fucking annoying when people pull the bar down straight away. fortunatly most peope at my mountain are chill about it and check /call it before blindly pulling it down.

i noticed that most people out west dont put the bar down at all. lots of lifts dont even have bars. why is it such a problem on the east coast? if you dont put it down some people freak out.

why would you ever put down a bar? it is a great place to set your drink when your hand gets tired. it holds ashtrays for all the smokers. and when you are feeling realy tired ( or drunk) it is a fabulous place to rest your head. the bartenders don't much care for this though, and will usually remove you from the establishment.

When I'm teaching or have my nametag on I have to put the bar down or I get fired. Otherwise, i get lazy unless there are footrests.

well, i dont mind the bars
but i hate it when i'm not expecting it and my arm is on the armrest, THAT hurts
or they get my leg
or smack me in the head
also, i hate it when i put the bar down and the footrests are all like sketchy jagged metal
but i really like the ones with no footrests, u can lean forward and still be all free

I hate how my mountain has a short really lop triple for the beginner slope and they yell at you to put the bar down. Then lifts like millicent at brighton have no bar and are like 200 feet up. gay shit. btw, they should really put bars on milli, im not a pussy or anything, but if your stuck over that one spot and it's windy, that would make me nervous.

well maybe its good for gapers to have the bar down. yesterday someone fell off the lift and broke their back. i was on the lift at the time and for some reason they had to stop the lift for 45 minutes (no exaggeration) while they cleaned up. if she had the bar down it wouldn't have happened. it cant hurt to have the bar down so why not?

are we talking just a safety bar, or a safety bar/ foot rest combo? the safety bar is retarded, but the ones with the foot rest are the bomb, i always but those down and rest my feets on em.

I don't like the foot rest (my legs rest better with my feet hanging), and the foot rests always seem to be right where I'd like my legs to hang, so I greatly prefer the bar to be up. And they're just kinda annoying.

The absolute worst is where they slam the bar into your head, and then they think there was just a mechanical error so they slam it down harder in panic. Im a fan of the last second scenario myself. gapoers dont seem to grasp the concept of footrests, becasue once again, when it doesnt go up and my feet are on the bar, thier breathing quickens and they start saying shit like "the safety bar is stuck! omg helllpp!"

Isnt putting the gaper bar down something like -500 gnar points according to the GNAR code?
What I hate is the bars at Heavenly.. I dont go there very often (mainly because its farther away from better places, way more expensive then everywhere else, and loaded with gapers if its not a powderday) but whenever I have, and I have wanted to get back down to the California side lodge or something, you have to go up one of these two, slow as balls chairlifts that have superdooper gaper bars that are even closer to you than most... as in, I dont even think fat people can fit with that bar down... What cracks me up is the chair is short as shit, and still, every gaper on the planet feels the need to lower the bar as soon as they get on the lift, and they whack me in the head because it is so short and I am quite tall...
One time I straight got fed up with it and put the bar back up as soon as they hit me in the head and they gave me this -OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO DIE IF YOU DONT PUT IT DOWN- look... I then told those two kids "hey dude... not every lift has a bar... get used to it..."
I know, that was a long ass post, but I'm trying to kill time before class. lol.

i never used to put the bar down but now i teach kids ages 3-7 to ski so i always do, and now its what i automatically do. my feet dont touch the foot rests though, so it sort of sucks.

I like leaning against the bar. It's annoying when someone just slams the bar down, but it's also annoying when someone is not paying attention. If someone tells you they are going to put the bar down, and you're not listening, that is your fault. People should say something though. It pisses me off when people slam the bar down one second after getting on the lift, they should at least look around and get eye contact. At the same point, I've had someone bitch at me when putting the bar down because they were not paying attention after having been asked twice. If someone asks you, and you are not paying attention, you are a dumbass and deserve to get hit by the bar. At Mammoth I spend most of my time on chairs 22 and 23 which don't have bars, so it's usually a moot point anyway.

thats some super scary shit. my mountain (Perfect North Slopes) doesnt even have bars, theres this one lift that goes over a run and you get wayyy up there, and all the noobs grab on to the back of the seat.
