I know a lot of you know how to do this already but I get asked quite frequently on and around the mountain how I cut my poles off. I got new poles and took pictures while cutting them down a tiny bit, here is how to do it!
first of all get your poles! I have next years Scott series 4
in snazzy green!
first thing to do is run the grip under hot hot hot water for a minute or 2. till there real hot and will slide off. you shouldn't have to try to hard it you have them warmed up enough!
pulling them apart is a no brainier so no pictures.
next is cutting the actual pole. josh at jibij uses a pipe cutter for this part. be being old school, i use a hack saw. measure out how much you want to take off and cut it off. and be careful, with brands such as Scott the pole does not go the full length of the grip, so keep that in mind while cutting the shaft.
after
you get the shaft cut off, you need to again warm the grip up.
make sure that you again get it nice and how. put it back on and line everything up how you want it!
after that you are set and ready to ride. you can see my newly cut poles and the scraps on the heel pieces of those bindings. if you cut off a lot of pole, keep the scraps. they make great tool to tweak out and or fix breaks on skis!
