This weekend july 5/6 is the aim series at Wycombe Summit. Its the first year that skiing has been included on this national series will be a great opportunity for our sport to gain some recognition in the Uk.
Ive included some pictures from last years event, and the press release. Any of you guys from the UK who may be interested in meeting up and/or competing message me back, should be a top weekend and a chance to show some skills, theres a lot of interest in new school skiing right now and this will be a great chance to get your name out there in the UK
AIM High Wycombe this weekend!
ba, ba, ba-ba; ba, ba, ba-ba; ba, ba, ba-ba, ba; ba-ba-baaa.
Just as groups of Druids, running around strange rock formations with their pants on their head's signals the start of the Glastonbury Festival, so the theme tune to Wimbledon denotes the start of this year's AIM Series.
Now come on, who really got that from a row of ba's? I wrote it and am still struggling to understand it.
High Wycombe, this weekend, 5th & 6th July, will be the first port of call for all budding freestyle skiers and snowboarders in the UK wanting to make a name for themselves at this year’s National qualification circuit – The AIM Series.
Equally important though are the 200 free lessons that are being offered to anybody who wishes to try either sport. Eager participants just need to go onto the website and enter their details to secure a lesson at any of the AIM events around the country, each participant gets a free goody bag with t-shirt. Everybody has to learn sometime, and it’s not everyday you get the chance to do it for absolutely free plus make a complete plum of yourself in front of hundreds of strangers. Jim’ll fix it for you!
Last year, the AIM Series became the breeding ground for emerging snowboard hopefuls and intends to replicate that for freestyle skiers this year.
A good number of the competitors are sponsored / professional riders, however, the emphasis is on encouraging more amateurs to compete and get their first taste of competitive skiing and snowboarding, regardless of age, sex, colour, foot size, star sign, Cristina or Britney preferences. Absolute Bo Selecta prizes will be up for grabs for all competitors in a bib draw. Plus any parent/child competitor combo’s will be suitably rewarded and if anybody can work Granny into the equation will throw in a Moulinex food processor.
Saturday will stage the snowboarding event and on Sunday the Skiers will get their chance to prove why they have forced their way into the Series. Detailed programme below.
Saturday Night will host the dedicated lodge-night with big name DJ, ScratchEwa-ewawickedywickwick, who will thump onto 1am.
It’s a wicked weekend where people can try the sports for themselves, compete, spectate, sun-bathe, watch the tennis in between, burn food on the BBQ, crack open a can and generally chill, all in the pleasant surroundings of Wycombe Summit’s woodland (I think I’ve just inadvertently targeted Bill Oddie and John Craven).
Folk wishing to make a weekend of it are welcome to bring their camping kit and pitch up onsite. There is no electrical hook-up or fresh water supply and emptying the shitter of your 30 foot, 10 berth Winnebago onsite will be frowned upon. Apart from that, anything goes, and we look forward to seeing you there.
