Depressing thought

I just turned 20 last week, and was joking about having a 'quarter life crisis' but my behavioural neuroscience prof dropped some heavy shit in lecture today. We are studying subjective perception of time, and how years literally go by quicker the older you get. He claims the real midlife crisis should occur before 25, since that is about the middle of your subjective perception of your life. fuuuck

its funny because reading this, im thinking to myself that you are so much older than me. i mean 20 years old, no longer a teenager and here i am, 19, not too far away from where you are, its wierd

basically your life is brokedn up into seconds. Theres being a kid, being a teenager, being a young adult. Then you're old. The old stage is percieved as way longer than all the others so really you view the youn adult stage (like your 20s) as the middle. At least thats what I was guessing.

don't think about the 'midlife' crisis thing. you're YOUNG. 20 is YOUNG. i used to volunteer at a nursing home for about 4 months, and honestly, i met some 80 year olds that had more spirit, being more vivacious that some teens i've ever met. there were many who were just soo full of life, at a much older age. age is a number- it doesn't represent the type of person you are.

not exactly... more like years feel like they take longer to pass when you are young. as your brain slows down you take less notice of the passage of time. so, for example, it might feel like forever to get from 10 to 20 but once youve hit 30 you are 40 before you know it. lets say your life is a story that describes events in terms of how long they SEEM to take, when you got to age 25 youd be more than half way done telling the story.

no means to be emo, but every birthday/new years/college applications and shit i get really sad and depressed. im at the perfect age right now. i dont want repsonsibilities and get closer to dying.

Haha, I think the same thing when people close to my age tell me how old they are.


Anyway back on topic...


I've noticed as I've gotten older ('cause you know, I'm SO wise and mature at the ripe old age of 18) That time really does seem to pass faster as you get older. When you're 7 or 8 it seems like months go on FOREVER! and now it's like "whoops there goes another two years!" It's scary to think about how fast it'll all go by when I'm 40-50 and older.

for sure i see young 20's as being the crisis years. There is so much pressure put on you to decide your path for the rest of your life. I mean everyone always says you can change what your doing. but once a house to pay off and kids to feed quitting a paycheck isnt so easy. So when your in your young 20's in university, deciding what you are going to do, or out of university starting a career your not sure about, its fucken insane. Im in your boat man. early 20's are intense. Come end of april when school is out. I will have no worries and everything will be awesome. Its this last month of school that is a killer.

i just turned 19 last week, and just like my 18th birthday i didnt feel a bit differnt, and i didnt even get to go skiing which i was really pissed off about

yeah its true, at least for me. i just turned 25 two months ago and am still saying i'm 24. dont really know why except i dont want to be labeled "mid-twenties"--ouch it hurts. so when i start getting older i think i'll stay 29 for a while. we'll see how i feel then though. i went skiing the other day and passed as a teenager got a deal for saying I was 19. yeah that made my day. you know what else sucks? i dont get id'd anymore for booze. luckily though my car insurance rates went down!!!

I feel so old now. People still say I look like 15 or 16 though.

........I think it's because when you're older, you're working at a job doing the same thing day in and day out so it seems like time passes quicker. Whereas when you're younger and in school every day is kind of different.

yeah i just turned 18 and i felt really old a couple days after, but then i thought about it and like 10 years ago i was 8, 10 years ago my parents were 47 and they still arent crazy old yet.
plus my grandma just found out i didnt believe in santa. then i felt wierd cause i felt really young.
then i realised that im a fag for actually thinking about this and stopped.

i hate thinking about how soon i'll be off to college, then after that im an adult. ive been a kid all my life and i want to stay being a kid, i dont want to grow up and change how i live. i love being 17 (liked 16 more but whatever) and i dont want to get any older. it blows my mind to think in 3 years im 20. its so nuts
