im writing my junior research paper on how religion is basically a big joke. everyone thats on jesus' dick dont get pissed, just tell me some short sweet reasons why you believe in god?
also i need some reasons that YOU GUYS/GIRLS personally dont believe in god.

basically tell me your thoughts on religion in this world

i believe in god because in order for something to be created you need something. you can not create anything without nothing. so it has to start somewhere. plus the bible has foretold a lot of true prophecies.

look up Descartes proof's for Gods existence or Pascals Wager, both of those could be useful in your paper. I find logical attempts to prove God's existence more interesting than scripture.

god is the easiest explanation to creation. all gods are. "hey where did our kind come from?" GOD! a huge imortal who sits on a cloud and looks down on us! gimme a fucking break. there are no fuckign angels , there is no hell and there is no fucking god. humans are a product of evolution, just like birds and insects. in 20 thousand years chimpanzees will probably be able to talk.

I believe in God because i just do. Why do you believe in love? Certain things we just believe to be real because we know they exist because we can feel them and have personal emotional/psychological proof of them.

religin is somthing to give people comfort. a way for people to base their lives on values and morales they find fitting. the fact that there is a higher being watching over you can be a very nice thought to some people. i dont see a why you think you can just come up and tell people that the way they base their actions, their life, is a joke. fairytales. you dont have to believe but dont make fun of the people that do.

People believe in god because they are afraid of death and cant stand the fact that tehy are going to die and thats it.
it makes me so mad when people seriously believe in it and turn down all the science and shit thats against it but i mean power to you if you do believe in god you'll prolly live a happy life believing that your gonna be sent to a heaven but id rather live my life to the fullest rather than wait to die then think im gonna have all these oppurtunities and shit
the actual christian religon is actualy pretty fucked up and has done some pretty fucked up things to people like slavery and all the crap with gay people etc.
fuck christians who think they can brainwash you to fucking think like them seirously
religon causes wars not fucking unity

the reason i don't really believe in god is because I haven't really ever asked anything of god so there has never been a time that religion could prove itself to me.

there has to be something... and that is logical... people can try to explain things with scientific theories and i dont deny that science is how things came to be... but what caused that itself? couldnt the big bang and evolution, etc, be the way in which god created? i believe there is a higher power but it is not the "wizard" like character that is portrayed by the church or religion when explaining creation. over the years people have gotten too caught up in political correctness and choosing one extreme side vs. the other. there is a middle ground and it is probably the most logical explination... theres missing parts of each side of the argument... put them together and u have the whole explination... hopefully ya guys understand what im trying to say...

You could not be more wrong.
Most people who believe in God are not afraid of death, it is just another step. Christians are usually satisfied with their lives while those who believe in nothing constantly envy the young as they grow older. The people who are most afraid of death are those who believe in nothing. I agree the fanatical preparation for the afterlife so that you cannot fully enjoy the current life, practiced by radical Christian sect doctrines, is ridiculous however (Amish and such fall into this category).

It's not so much living a happy life because Christians are trying to get to heaven. Its living a happy life knowing that they live their lives morally and by strong virtues.

Judge the Christian religion by the message it gives, not what followers of the religion did during the dark and middle ages.

yes, because einstein is the end all, be all of scientific thought, right?

i did a 12 page paper on einstein for a philosophy class last year. he was very ambiguous in that he often discussed both religion and science together. look up his quotes on religion and you'll find tons of rambling thoughts that appear consistent with his previous ones, then seem entirely conflicting. he was a genius, but by no means is anything he said 100% true.

that's the brilliant paradox of religion - it can't be proven, and yet it needs no proof.

Not sure if this will help you in your paper or not, but I used to be a "Jesus Freak." I went to church all the time, I brought non-believing friends to my youthgroup activities etc.... This was all from the time i was like 10-16. Then I started developing my mind a little bit. I was reading the bible more and more on my own, and I had tons and tons of questions. So naturally I went to church, and asked my pastor, other people in the church all these questions. The basic responses i got were "you can't ask that; just believe." Well I'm not one who can just believe something for no reason. Then I started reading more and more about other types of religion, and seeing that although in practice they're very different, at their core they're very simliar. What really clinched it for me was finding out that there are other gospels out there that depict Jesus as just a regular dude, and not a diety. But these books were intentionally left out of the bible because the contradict the theme of the New Testiment. It was then that I stopped going to church, and started thinking for myself.

What it all boils down to is people feel a need to have purpose. A need to belong to something, and a need to hope for something good in the future/afterlife. As of right now, i don't know if there is a god or gods. Yeah it's something I think I would like to believe, but I dont know for sure either way. So I'm going to drink some beers, get drunk every now and then, have sex with women before marriage, say what I want, think what I think, and not really give a shit about what other people think about it. I dont think religion is a bad thing untill it is forced upon others. If you have your beliefs, and stick to them 100% that's cool, I respect that, but dont shove it down my throat. I've been down that road, and it didn't work for me, so respect my standpoint is all I ask.

And no shit im biased, its a research paper, i research my opinion. i dont wanna know what you think about me, but about religion. so take your pathetic self somewhere else

exactly.

i had to read god knows how many books last year for this hell of a class i was talking about, including everything about emile durkehim, probably one of the most important sociologists ever.

his main theory behind religion was that its survival and perpetuation centered around connectivity. the feeling of belonging, especially when placed in contexts such as church, bible study, group prayer, etc., generated a greater feeling of satisfaction in its unity.

Ya Im a christian and How much faith do you have to believe in evolution. You weren't there when the world was evoloved I know the whole deal about it happens too "slow" to be seen. but what if God did create the world in 7 days what if there was a worldwide flood theat made things like the grand canyon and created millions of fossle deposots around the world. It takes the same amount of faith to believe there isn't a God to believe there Is.

To prove god is to disprove god. Personally, I'm more agnostic. I really stopped believing in Christianity when I found out they claim anything they cannot answer as being incomprehensible for our "human" minds. I try to judge more on the person than their religion. There have been some great people who weren't Christian and there have been some very bad people who were.

The Cosmological argument is an a priora argument, meaning that it requires no empirical or phenomenological evidence. It is based on pure logic and reasoning, one such argument is St. Thomas Aquinas' 5 ways, in which he uses logic and reasoning to establish the existence of God.

I'm an athiest and enjoy tearing Thomas Aquinas apart, however logic and reasoning is used to prove the existence of God.

god, as in the big dude in the sky, is a fabrication of organised religion and is essentially their explanation of whats inside all of us.
do you really think people would have gone to church and stuff if they believed god was inside themselves? i think not.

God and Religion are just ways to give reason to unreasonable events; things that cannot be readily explained. If you look at tribes native to parts of Papua New Guinea; every time something that cannot be explained logically occurs it becomes an act of god, or the devil.

I believe that it is all a load of shit to be honest.

I don't believe in anything but myself, and it works for me... start worshipping me :p

Really, I don't need to believe in something bigger and I don't believe there is something like that. Everything can be explained with logic, also the unexplainable things, we just ain't smart enough (yet) to explain those.

Don't mind if people find comfort in "believing", but for me it shows you can't deal with life and death, and everything in between. The human race doesn't filter out genetically the weak like some species do..
