Sure it's possible. Look at Dana Flahr, one of the best all around skiers in the world today, he did not race, just skiied a ton and moved to Whistler when he was 18.

It's a combination of your natural talent/ability, days on snow (biggest factor), who you ride with, terrain available etc.

Racing is just one path, but there is no denying it makes you a better all around skier with a clue how to turn a pair of sticks.

the race team at my mountain tends to ride the park after practice with this super steezy skier who's a coach (i guess he needs the money). but anyway, we had this like drainage pipe wallride thing (think of those tree jibs candide thovex does in war, but with a pipe) in our park, and he hit it and got like halfway up and they got pretty amped. so they all decide to try it. they're all kinda not getting enough speed cuz they cant take the tranny and are either not making it or just like tapping their tips. so this one racer starts from the very top of the park, mobs into it, and doesnt take the tranny right to get like sideways to hit it, so instead he slams, face-first, right into the pipe. i swear the whole park was laughing, it was great. and even funnier was that he went up again, obviously with more confidence, and did the exact same thing like 5 times before he gave up. it was awesome

Natural talent / ability is pretty much a myth. Sure there are people who are more apt to certain sports, but no one is truly a "natural" at skiing. Talent level in skiing is directly proportional to the effort and amount of snow time you have.

Ok, I get maybe 50 days on snow, only because I'm currently cursed to live on the prairies. I intend to really push it this season with my new skis. Thanks for aleviating my concerns. +k

ya im pretty sure your being pretty biased there. none of my coaches ever say anything like that. i know some that do but they all end up getting fired. my coaches are dicks when people are dicks to us like stabbing me in the back with there pole then we will be dicks back but seriously you cant be like all racers are egotistical fags cause not all of us are

i have no problem with racers if they dont cut me off and shit like that, but most of them do, so i have a problem with most of them. some are cool tho

The problem is when they bring racing to the park. I've had coaches almost run me over when IU was working. One coach boosted the trap rail almost killed a kid who was almost off it and then power carved away.


Then the little kid racer groups, dumb coach tells the kids to all roll over the biggest jump in the park. There all falling on top of each other on the other side. I told her not to bring them through again, because they weren't following any of the rules, they just snaked a whole bunch of kids waiting to drop, they were way over their ability level, and they weren't using the jump right anyway.

Then she flipped on me and said she would get me fired. I was even a dick about it, I just asked her not to bring them through.

When your waiting to drop and you get snaked by 20 little kids that roll the lip and sit on the landing, it pisses you off. IT wasn't cool to do that to them.

We had a small park with it's own lift way out to the side of the mountain. You had to walk or skate across flat to get there. We just kept to ourselves. Then a bunch of racers came over, and tried to set up a slalom course down the middle of the park. They got what they deserved though


Park etiquette. Some racers just don't have it.

Maybe It was just that mountain. The racers there suck. Other mountains some of the racers are actually alright, and some of them can throw down in the park too.

Idk. I still think it's kinda gay, but if they're cool, I'm cool with them

true. When they come in into the park thinking they own the place, they get the same response as if we poached the race course in the middle of somebody's run, did some butters, jib a gate or two, hit some of the rollers and then bounce.


Then they actually come in, wait for people in front if there's people waiting to drop, don't run people over, don't race through the park, don't jump rail takeoffs, I have no problem with them. I don't get why guys want to wear spandex suits though. But who am I too just, as long as they respect the park Im cool with it

If it weren't for racing I wouldn't be a park skier. Sun valley never had a park so when we would go to jackson hole or bogus basin back in middle school for races we would hit the tables and experiment. Its a completely different part of the sport but it just helps diversify a skier. Jon Olsson was a racer and he is now one of the richest park skiers out there, and there are plenty of other pro's who would be nothing without it.

Sun valley never had a park so when we would go to jackson hole or bogus basin back in middle school for races we would hit the tables and experiment. Its a completely different part of the sport but it just helps diversify a skier. Jon Olsson was a racer and he is now one of the richest park skiers out there, and there are plenty of other pro's who would be nothing without it.
