im a racer but i dont suck, this is my last year cuz park skiing is where its at, im acutlly preety good too, i can 270 on, 270 out, and then evey spin up to an inc 7, and yes i got style, and enter and have won freestlye comps. so not all racer suck and not all racers giva a fuck about racing, i make fun of the kids on my team who r hardcore so just remeber some racers are Gs

i know a few ex racers and they kill it in the park and all mountain so as long as they don't start putting gates in the pipe or park then i am cool with it.

on that note, i was in the keystone park today and a few racers cruised over towards the end of the day, and asked me if i could see because my goggles were so high(i was saggin em pretty hard). i just told them i had down syndrome and to leave me alone.

the race coaches are the worst. i was in the lift line and a coach was in fron of me nd he turned around and told me to back the fuck up cause he didnt want me ruining his skiis cause they were better than his. fucking asshole racing coaches.

competing in races does not make you a "racer" (not the type we are hating on at least)

racers wear gsuits as often as possible. they love wearing spyder vests over black longsleeve shirts.
they are known to wear sunglasses, and as said before, LOVE to "race the park"

remember, park rats, when you're too old to do anything in the park because you can't risk hurting yourself and the possible wages lost from it you will be left with carving lines, and the kids who spent the time outside the park to build that foundation like some racing kids; will have already had a solid foundation and be carving lines in style, while you look like some weekend warrior.

Well, i prefer park, but sometimes i participate in some small slalom races, i even got first several times.

But i have to agree, most racers are fucked up with scores and being better than others, while park riders are most of the time chill, they even help eachother with their steez and techs... while racers just wear lycra panties to be sexier and to out-sexiee eachother..

word... i started racing as soon as i started skiing and now all i ski is park and big mountain... today i had to ride my old rc4 160's in the park and i got worked all day long.... and im not gonna lie, sometimes i wish i could hit a few gates.. but skiin park and big mountain is def where its at

to be honest...the only reason i got into park skiing is cuz im from a town with a tiny ass hill (100 vertical) and we cant rele go rip up the cord so we became park skiers...but racers in the park who jus jump off the side of the rail launch ramps pissin me off so much cuz i help take care of the park...

So I have a friend who races who thinks he knows everything about freestyle since he has been skiing since he was 3. The thing is, he doesn't. I was talking about what I saw on a video I was watching and he was like "What is a disaster??". To make things worse my other friend (a huge poser) pretty much idolizes my racer friend and believes everything he says. My racer friend said it was physically impossible to do a nose press and now my other friend believes him, it's pretty much hilarious. Anyways, the point is, in my view the bulk of the population of racers are posers and I can't stand them.

if people ski park every day and actually are conscious about their skiing they will undoubtedly get pretty fucking good at carving lines and shit.

i only get about 10 days in a season, but somehow i have developed (what i feel) is a good carving technique, even though those 10 days are all spent in the park.

powder is another story... that will require some real training for me, cuz i just dont fucking get it. i feel like a total newb in deep snow.

id have to say that some of the best training you could do (besides actually skiing pow itself) is racing... thats where you get your good form from... skiing pow seems to be a lot about good form and balance... this is my first year in pow and id have to say i feel just as comfortable in the soft stuff as i do on hard pack. came from jersey.. now im rippin up brighton

Your two sentences above are quite controversial.

What you feel like carving in the park is probably just using the sidecut of the ski but (sorry) pretty much nothing else.

You could use a different technique from racing to ski pow/soft snow (think old school powder eights and unweighting, which still are useable in some terrain and/or conditions) but with fat skis the technique is pretty similar everywhere regardless of the terrain/snow. Think how Nobis was the groundbreaking AK freeskier (back in like 97~98?), just out of the racing world, when Dynastar gave him air of fatties and sent him to Valdez. The rest is modern (free)skiing's history. The guy charged the faces like he did the gates on the Word Cup tour - in a style that wasn't familiar for most of the big mountain skiers at the time.

Almost all the best big mountain skiers have some racing backgroung (Morrison comes to mind first, and even some top freestylers like Olsson!) You don't have to dig the typical racers but saying that racing won't give you the most solid all-mountain skill set is just untrue. Sure moguls are good too, park developes some other aspects etc. but in race training there's all the basic fundamentals for solid, technical skiing.

Go chase some gates just for variation...you might find out how bad of a skier you actually are...:)
