you guys think its worth it to upgrade to a FX-1 the sony 3 chip HD camera, or just stick with a vx2100? Or is HD just too much disc space, and not enough things compatible with it?

regular cameras are already over 480i resolution. If your not going to sell your movies, don't waste the money. plus hd is much harder to render and edit for your computer. What kind of computer do you edit on and what are the specs

id agree with lucky, unless your selling movies, or filming for someone, stay with the 3 chip, wait until HD goes down in price a bit

your all saying to stick with the 3 chip, but the FX-1 is a 3chip camera that captures in HD, and you can import the film as normal film or HD, but it records in HD. I guess I wasn't too clear with my question.

go w/ the fx1, i mean it films in HD, but it isnt true HD, its HDV. Yes it is still 3 chip technology and its a sick camera. I have one, love it and the quality of everything i film is so good. It does take up a decent amount of space, but just get an external and you'll be set! I'd even reccomend the HDR-FX7, its like 2 times smaller, and has 3 of the new CMOS chips, which are incredible for quality, but still records to an HDV tape. And i think the price is similar too. If you want true HD, the Panasonic P2 delivers it, but doesnt use a tape, so if your hard drive crashes you'l lose your footage....so i'd reccomend the fx1, i like having a little more camera than the fx7, for stability purposes. Its such a rad camera! For like 1000 more dollars HD quality is worth it.

3ccd or whatever its called is much better than more pixels. Color is what gives the proffetional look to a film.

^ from what i know about video cams, and thats a decent amount, the size and number of chips in it directly relates to the pixels. So a 3 chip camera will usually have like 40000 pixels

I work both with CMOS and 3CCD and see no lack of color in either camera. The only difference i see is that CMOS looks slightly cleaner, and a tad sharper!
