fuck, if someone already said the stuff im about to say, im sorry, but im not going to read every response...
heres the deal...if you contest the ticket, and lose...which you will. you will have to pay the full fine.
the reason you will lose, is because, the only way to win is to have the cop not show up (which they've shown up all three times ive tried that), or by PROVING you didnt do it. It cant just be your word against the cops, cause they'll take his side. Keep in mind that fighting/contesting it, is saying that you DIDNT commit the act on the ticket. The police officer writes down everything you say in his notes on the back of the ticket, thats what hes doing as he's sitting in his car. So if he pulled you over and you said "sorry, i didnt realize i was going that fast"...or something. then try to contest it, the judge is going to see that and count it as a confession. That's what happened to me.
You could,
a.) cut your losses, mitigate it, which is just explaining circumstances (ie: im sorry, ive never gotten a ticket before, have mercy)...and you'll get the fine greatly reduced.
b.) defer it. so basically you pay 100 bucks or so in court fees, plus whatever the ticket is (depending on the state you either have to pay it or dont), and its not on your record, so your parents wont find out nor will it go on your insurance. Although, you only get 1 deferral like every 6 years or something like that. And if you defer a ticket, if you get another one within a certain time period, your original ticket that you deferred you get nailed with.
ummm, hope any of that helps, although it appears you're from IL, and I don't know anything about there. I'd look at this list:
