Converting m4a files to mp3

yeah so basically im wondering if there is anyway i can convert m4a music files to mp3's. i really want a song to use for a vid but my program wont play m4a's

open itunes, go into preferences, and under the importing preferences, change it so it imports in mp3 format, not AAC (which is what creates an m4a file), then highlight the song you want to convert, and then go up to 'advanced' in the menu bar and select 'convert selection to mp3' and you're done
these are the mac directions, but im sure they're very similar on a pc

how about just right-click on your song in itunes, and select "convert selection to mp3"?

yes that can be done, but the importing prefs still have to be set to 'import in mp3' format.. or else it will read 'import to aac' when he right clicks.

yeah it read convert to aac...that didnt work is there any other way i could do it?

there is a program you can dl, but the whole itunes thing is sooo much fuckin easier. you saved my life man. this is the single most useful thread ive ever seen on ns.
