Ok, so awhile ago I planned to have a good friend of mine visit me over spring break. Her spring break comes a week after mine, so she was going to come if break is from this coming Saturday to next Sunday, she's coming on the Friday of my break and then staying through the next week, so she would be here for three days of mine.
Get a notice today saying that no guests are allowed whatsoever in the dorms over spring break. Not even for five minutes during the day. Violation of the policy results in eviction without refund and possible judicial action, due to liability reasons (?). So, seeing as I'd already purchased the nonrefundable bus ticket, I decided to start finding loopholes. Turns out the academic calendar states that Spring break lasts from M-F of that week, and Saturday and Sunday are not defined as being part of the break, even though the dorms are closed and when I talked to my RA he said guests still aren't allowed during that period.
So I have a pretty decent argument lined up...
"Look, I bought my ticket under the impression that my friend would be able to stay here over the weekend. It is not my fault that your academic calendar is vague and doesn't accurately describe when vacation begins and ends. Either make an exception and let her stay here, or pay me for a hotel for three days and her entire bus ticket to account for the massive inconvenience this has caused."
If worse comes to worse and they refuse to abide to either condition I would tell them my parents are good friends with a very good lawyer haha...
Should I present this to the Resident Director and risk them getting angry, calling my bluff, or making sure to check my room really well for guests over break? Or should I just leave it and try to sneak them in?
