Anyone know a college thats like less than a 30 min drive or so from a good ski resort? And it has to be a GOOD college too. no south harmin institute of technology.

The University of Colorado at Bolder's decent. As is UVM and a few other places near Burlington, VT.

i was lookin at a poster of UC@Colorado that was in the office at my school and thought it looked cool. not sure if my parents would want to go all the way out west though(i live in ohio)

I'd say U of Utah has the ideal location, unfortunately its not an amazing school. it's hard to find a "good" school within 30 mins of a good ski area. you will probably have to compromise to find a "good" school within an hour or an hour and a half.

except for UVM, those aren't exactly ideal schools for somebody whose priority is apparently skiing and then, oh ya, the school part.

U of Utah = Legit school 35 minutes away from 5 solid resorts
CU Boulder = Really good school thats an hour and a half or so from 4 or 5 solid resorts

I say "legit" because its not as good as CU but its a fine college.

I don't think there are any GOOD colleges near GOOD mountains. There are decent colleges next to GOOD mountains and probably GOOD colleges near decent mountains but if you want a really good top 25 schools in the country type college you're gonna have to settle for being more than half an hour away from awesome skiing.

to actually help you though, University of Washington isn't too far from the skiing in Washington and its like 5 hours from whistler. Its a really good school, especially for computer stuff since Microsoft is based in seattle.

California has good schools and skiing but I'm not sure how close they are. I know there are people on here that go to USC and ski pretty often.

why the hell do people always say go to the university of utah when talking about a college near ski resorts? Do you want to be an outcast to society there or what? Its full of ignorant mormons that will hate on you. I have a friend that when he was little lived in utah. The mormons wouldnt let their kids play with him. so please if you arent a mormon dont go to college there, its one of the most conservative anti partying schools along with BYU.

If you want a good school check out Fort Lewis or western state in gunnison. Western State and Fort Lewis are not crappy schools and they offer better skiing than CU Boulder. But CU is in Boulder and some of you city slickers that ski may like that more which is pathetic. CU Boulder is full of gapers and trust fund babys from all over the US. If you want to drive along I-25 to get to ski resorts along with all the other gapers from denver go for it.

Two Plank productions is located in Crested Butte and so is Colorado Freeskier. Huge skiing community, so to me those places are the schools to go to if you want to ski and also go to school. Monarch is nearby also which is a small resort but offers some great cat skiing and they have the best snow in colorado besides wolf creek. And if people want to say Western State is a crap school they dont know shit. Western State is a good school if you major in something like geology, biology, or chemistry or something along there. like most public schools, majoring in communication, recreation, or psychology will get you no where. Fort Lewis in Durango is a short drive to purgatory, wolf creek, and silverton mountain which all are great skiing.

well both of those options are nigh impossible to get into if your from out of state.

if you can dig Washington state and its lovely weather *chuckle* consider Western Washington University. its 3 hours from whistler and 1:30 from Mt. Baker, which gets more snow than you can possibly imagine and has terrain that will make your balls shrink. Western is actually a very good school and its one of those places where you can get an amazing education if you put in the effort. I go here and love it. Bellingham is a dope town, and the herb is second to none. (i mean besides humbolt state and evergreen)

Last years freshman class at USC was 49% out of state. The average SAT and GPA for incoming freshman at both USC and Washington are hardly unreachable, and thats just the middle 50% of students. I would assume that colleges love accepting out of state kids since they pay twice as much money.

actually all you people from the east and midwest, go to college in cali, washington, or utah. colorado doesnt need gapers from all over the US, especially texas.

45 minutes to Snoqualmie Pass (Best park riding in the state)
90 minutes from Crystal Mt or Stevens Pass (both are rediculously great all around mountians)
3 hrs from Mt Baker
5-6 hrs from Whistler

U of WA is great, I love it here. Seattle kicks ass.

id settle for a lesser hill if it were really close to the school. im not gonna have a car my 1st few years in college prolly so i just want something decent thats close enough to go to everyday. right now i ski on a hill w/ 400 foot vertical that keeps a decent park so something like that athough its not ideal i wouldnt mind

If you want to be on the east coast go to Middlebury or UVM, both real fun and pretty good schools near Stowe and Bush..

out west just don't go to U Utah

finally someone saying dont go to the U of Utah, if you want to ski utah do not go to college, but in my opinion there are many places better or similar so there is no reason to hang with the momo's.

UVM has at least five mountians close to it

bolton valley is 20 mins

stowe
sugarbush
smugglers notch are around an hour

jay peak is an hour and 15 mins

and UVM is becoming a better and better school

Word.

Basically, 1 hour away, you've got Snoqualmie Pass which has a rad park and Alpental is fucking amazing when there is new snow.  A little further away is Steven's Pass which is also a pretty sweet mountain.  Whistler being 5 hours away, you can take weekend trips there and they have college season passes for 325$.  Plus, UW is a really good school, I think they have 9 noble prize winners as profs...I am biased though, because I go there, but I my opinion, UW has the best quality education : good skiing ration.

It's close to big sky, and really really close to bridger bowl, which has a lot of great backcountry hiking.

as for UW and USC, USC is not a state school, its private. i'm not sure about UW, but I think it's private too. I go to Seattle U and it is a very good school, as well. It's very small but its solid. Great business school and science programs. I'm not sure how solid WWU is. I think its the same as any state school, it can be excellent if you want it to be. If you want to just slack off get a mediocre degree its possible too. But its pretty close to Baker and Whis. Both veeerrrrryyyyyyy sick. they had insane amounts of snow this year....pretty much every year. bastards.

dartmouth has its own ski hill.
I'm at University of Montana, 15 min away from Snowbowl, which isn't the best. but its 2.5hours from Big Mountain, 2.5 from Big Sky and Bridger, 45 from Discovery, a little from Lost Trail, Silver, blah blah blah. I'd acually reccomend MSU over UM just for the skiing, but the education is supposedly better at UM and the party scene is ALOT better at UM.

For real. I actually hear the UM party scene is a lot better, it got top 20 in the nation or something ridiculous. Skiing is way the hell better in Boze Angeles though.

so does middlebury, but they really aren't much compared to the big resorts. But, the price can't be beat. The cost for students is real cheap, i skied there on 99 cent day! Cheapest day of skiing in my entire life. PS here is a pic of a bro getting some serious air at dartmouth skiway, courtesy of their site
