Replying to A cork 5 won a RAIL jam...
Jea, that's right. The "spin to win" has invaded the rail jams too. So here’s the low down, but before I start....if you are on NS bro, I'm not bitchin' at you personally, more so the crowd/judges. You're a cool kid and don’t take this as hate towards you.
So here we go....
I was competing in a rail jam on Saturday at a local mountain. There were about 40 people there. It was an open class event (boarders v. skiers). They held the qualifiers for about 45 minutes with all of the people. After the 45 minutes was up, they chose the 10 to advance. I made the cut along with a few friends.
There were 10 of us, and we decided to limit the jam to only on the stairset. The stairset was about 15-20 stairs long with a flat down rail on the left, a low flat down rail in the middle, and a flat down box on the right. After about 20 minutes of jamming they chose the top 4 from the top 10. I also made this cut.
The top 4 were my friend (snowboarder), some other snowboarder, another skier, and myself. I had been really gettin' into it and having a lot of fun. I had been throwing 270 to down 270 out on the left side flat down and a bunch of other more techy stuff. I hike back up for another hit and I decide to 450 to down on the flat down rail. I go for it and stomp the shit out of it (sorry for the claim ;p).
While I was hiking up, the other skier dropped in and cork 5ed over the entire flat down box, using it like booter. He landed past the entire stairset without touching a rail. Remember that this is RAIL jam, RAIL being the key word.... The minute I saw him do this I knew he would win. I get up to the top and decide to try to 630 onto the flat down rail. I went for it and locked on fine, but then I slipped out and ate shit.
They called a stop to the shredding and told the top 4 to stand far apart. The event head then told everyone who didn't make the top 4 to go and stand by the person who they thought should win. About 20 kids go over to the skier who cork 5ed and about 15 stand around me. The rest go to the two snowboarders. The event head said something to the effect of "Well we obviously have a winner," pointing to the other skier. So a trick that didn't even touch a rail ended up winning the rail jam. Im kind of annoyed because I got a clear second.
So there's my rant.
What's your take on this whole thang?
