A buddy of mine and I are looking to head to Whistler for college, for a semester, but we need some ideas. Are there any good colleges there to attend, or a better place to go to college and ski?
Everyone's favourite: University of Whistler. Tuition? $5.95 for the sticker at TMC. Send it to mom/dad, make them think this shit's legit.
No, really, you have no college options IN whistler, other than distance ed. Vancouver? Universities include UBC and SFU (Kinda, SFU is kinda like the fucking ghetto of universities. Don't make the same mistake I did, stay the fuck away) BCIT is a pretty good college with some particularly excellent programs, langara and capilano have things they absolutely excel at, and I hear Uvic is fun, but don't bother unless you really wanna ski mt washington.
haahhaa yeah UoWWBC its one of the higets ranking univeristies in the world top 20. Universitiy pof wetern whistler bc, are you fucking reatertd??? i was born in W and there was about 12 kids bron in my year, 36 moved and eventually graduated with em oin grad classs...aunvi of whistler?? you are fucked..however there is ubc , sfu, and a bunch of colleges, plus some shit in squamish now i think tooo. ( 20 mins south of whistler)
Don't even bother with attempting to do class and ski at the same time, it wont happen. You'll either end up dropping out to ski, or being so overloaded with class that you ski 2-4 days a month. Not worth it. Take a year off, come and ski your brains out, then go back to school. Or take one semester off, ski, then go to Uni the following semester.
or go to a uni that isn't as intense and closer to a smaller mountain, i go to Thompson rivers university in Kamloops, 45 min away from sun peaks sure its no whistler but you can still ski 3-4 days a week even when your in upper level classes, or look at the UBC campus in Kelowna and ski big white
I go to UBC, and already have 28 days on my pass (including skiing during the breaks), getting up every weekend. And it's still not enough, going back down the sea-to-sky I always wonder why I head back to town. I'm thinking about taking a gap year, but I know the year will turn out to be 3, so make your decisions carefully. I also failed a class, but that was before the ski season so I don't know if my grades were affected or not, but really one day of skiing a week is manageable, at least in first year.
