make sure you have a router connected to your internet in your house...then you'll definitely be able to connect instantly.

apples have the WORST wireless cards...terrible HP and Dell laptops always pick up networks that I don't with my Macbook Pro. So annoying.

really? I've also used my friend's powerbook quite a bit, and our other friend's Dell was consistently getting more networks.

last year it took us awhile to get internet hooke dup at our place, but both my roomates have macbook pros and i had an emac, so they stole someone else's wireless single and then shared it with me through and ethernet connection. So we basically had our little network stealing internet signals and i don't even have an airport, it was super sick.

hahaha, thank you!! i was just gonna say something along those lines.
my home laptop is an ibook g4, it never has any problems and always stays connected to the internet.
the laptop my school provides me with is a PC. I think it has a faulty wireless card because the internet cuts out every 5 minutes or so and would reconnect after repairing it for another 5 or so minutes. My PC always gets viruses and i've had teh blue screen of death three times this week so far and its only tuesday. fuck PCS. I've hung this computer out of the third story window at my school because i got the blue screen of death right in the middle of a paper i was writing in US History. I lost 1.5 hours of work, needless to say i was pissed off. my us history teacher eventually convinced me that dropping my comp out the window wouldn't help anything.

yeah this has been a problem for the pros... my mac mini has always had good reception but it's varies depending on the angle it sits on the desk... pros have suffered from this in the past but from what i've heard it varies from model to model.
the antenas are in the screens of the macbooks and mb pros and the big aliminium screen can act as a shield against wireless signal... apple have actually admitted this is a problem though and worked to fixing it with newer models.
