Replying to Out of state college

i live in mass and i want to go to CU for college but it is expensive. im a junior and just started looking at colleges and went to boulder in february and i love everything about it..the only problem is that since i live out of state it is going to be twice as much money than if i were to live in colorado.. i have family (cousins) that live out there so i would be able to take a year off and become a resident but i heard the deal is that the only way to pay 12k instead or like 26k or whatever is if my parents lived out there for a year, or if i was 23.does anyone know any way of getting around that?
