Ipod Service Question

My Ipod just shit the bed and I want to buy an extended warranty for it. Ive had it for 2 years now but I was looking at the apple site and it says that the AppleCare Protection Plan has to be bought within the first year of having your ipod. My mom says that you can still buy an extended warranty even though ive had it for two years so my question is can I still get one or do I have to buy a brand new ipod?
