pollard rode no poles back before ski blading, read the article in the like 4 year old freeze about him. and hes not even the origionater. it started waaaaaaaay long ago, and should be more wide spread. fuck poles
no.. noone can truley track down the time where no poles started, but i can guess quite accurately that someone broke a pole and didnt want to ski one pole so used no poles and liked it. the end.
I saw something on this in Freeskier, obviously there is no ONE source but this is what it said.
TJ Shiller was in a comp. The airport lost his poles while he was on his way to the comp. He said screw it and did his runs with no poles and won it. And the next day the park was full of kids rockin no poles cause they just saw the man throw down and win like that so it must be cool. But TJ made it clear he thinks its gay and doesn't want to be associated with it.
ahh yeaaa about that... Kip O' was almost done with the vid and his computer straight up just crashed. lost everything. we then sorta decided meh i guess its not worth it we don't have THAT much footage soo maybe we'll come out with something this year I don't know. Sorry for getting your hopes up.
no poles is sooooooooooooooooooooo sick, when i saw pep and andy doing it, then i saw tom wallisch doin it, and everyone thought it was cool, i knew i had to do it, i used to think it was as gay as aids, but now its the coolest thing EVER.
i agree about the snowboarding part, but disagree with the simplicity of style part, it seems harder to look good withought poles. maybe not, but it is kinda akward without them sometimes so to look good without is a real talent
The origin or date is never going to be decided, but I know we started skiing without poles back in the day because we had to. We were working and had to carry shit to maintain the park. After a while we found that especially on Hood we didn't need them pesky things at all. And also it's way more doper to hit jumps with a rake and shovel in your hand than two pokey things that serve no purpose in the park. It's a little harder with a full park monkey on you back though.

i remember back in the vid clay pigions... twas a board and ski film some one was rockin no poles it mave have been pollard or ostness thats who i think dont quote me on that tho... that was a while ago.. but id guess that ski jumping and aerials were the first serious groups to do it...
poles were used to get around, and are still used to get around, as well as balance and other things, but it seems nowadays lots of people are going down the hill and going back up not needing pole assistance for anything in between.. seems efficient; and as we are humans, we are allllways efficient
