Reset, toggle the hold switch and hold the menu and select button for 6 seconds. If that doesn't work, try plugging it into the charger/computer. If that doesn't work, then send dat shit in and get a new one.
Wait wait. ok I held the menu and the center button down and i got the apple. then a file folder came up with an exclamamtion point. what does that mean?
I had an old school 20 gig and that same thing happened. What happened with mine though, (from what I think) is that something got knocked loose inside and when I tilted it and smacked it a few times and pressed menu, it would work. But if that's not the case, then maybe hitting it isn't the best idea. But something just to keep in mind as a last resort, ha ha.
Yeah seeing how your warranty is over, might as well. I'd try hitting it first/dropping it again and then reseting again. My 20gb color would fuck up (folder with :( showed up) and you hit it and it would work, pretty cool.
if you read it he said its 4 years old... and one thing i have to say is that i'm thinking about starting an iPod repair shop cause well, put it this way i have a very very good idea of what things mean on the iPod but the folder with the "!" usually means it's a motherboard error... and i'm not sure if i can get another one, i'm thinking i might be able to, but what generation is your iPod 1st or 2nd? or 3rd
