Rail Surface Suggestions...

The other day, the top sheet on my backyard rail chipped, the piece got lost, now you can an edge, so it's basically un-usable at the moment. I'm looking to go out and buy a new topsheet for the rail but don't really know what to look for.. I'm thinking about plexiglass?

it was a rain gutter that was mad of flat sheets of pvc. Kind of. I'd cut the thing into an upside down U so it fit perfectly around the top and then screwed it in. It'd been working fine until last week.
