Everybody is skiing without poles

Now I have tried it out and I do like it. For instance its way easier to do grabs. But when your on rails and boxes it doesn't feel right.
Now my main point in this is that everbody at my ski hill is rocking no poles. Just yesterday (sunday) I was watching big air for the little kids compettion. When I went to take my skis off where the other skiers had taken theirs off I noticed the lack of poles next to them. I was the only person to have my poles next to my skis.
No poles was just for fun but now its getting legit. With Pep and Andy going no poles at the X games and that really steezy guy on the top rated video section throwing down with no poles.
I like having poles, they help me get around. I don't want to shuffle around or pull my self along the sides of the lift lines like snowboarders or beginners.
Being an instructor I teach kids to use poles and its great to see them go from no poles and stumbling around to a pretty damn good skier making hop turns and pole taps. Poles really help you be a good skier. Maybe you are strict park, but your not young forever and your gonna pick up those poles again to hold you old body up when you ski. So don't forget to use your poles because you might need them some day, and it would be nice to know how to use them.

I skied today with no poles, only in the park. I got many stares from them Stowe goers. I thought no ploes was awesome. I will switch back and fourth, but always have my poles on the rest of the mountain.

i usually use poles just because im not always in the park, but for the last few seasons, i have tried not using them in the park. they definately are super fun, but if your looking to do serious skiing then it absolutely sucks dick.

I like it. Not always. I'll admit the pep and andy edit helped get me on that side but all it did was convince me to try it. I don't always ski without them, just sometimes

i like no poles cuz you feel like a little kid again. and if you wear baggy clothes you get to waddle around like a penguin. its a lot of fun, and when i tried it, i discovered how little i actually use my poles. but i still use poles most of the time.

spot on
everyone is hopping on this no poles band wagon post the pep and andy thing
i will laugh so fucking hard if pep and andy come out in the near future saying that they they have always thought no poles was fucking shit and only did it to see what effect it would have on an industry of followers and kids who cant produce their own styles and ideas

p.s i id rather fuck JD Zicat than ski without poles. wheres our fucking heritage. the day everyone skis with no poles is going to be a sad day in my opinion, because it will mean park has become the heart and soul of skiing, and skiing big mountain and general all mountain terrain will have become obsolete and extinct. i want this sport to head towards throwing all tricks from the park in the bc etc, not towards 100% park. thats my rant/opinion anyway

it just looks so stupid and awkward. i mean even if you're sick you still look like an idiot in my opinion. don't drop the poles...please. it's a terrible fad, almost as bad as tight pants.

^^ yeah man i totally agree with you. Its fun for like learning tricks, get the feeling. But throwing with poles looks sooo much more steezier. And yeah i weel like a dork when I need to get up a hill without no poles or a queue that goes a lil uphill.

I rollerblade, so when I come back to skiing its like "whoa" I like having poles but when I don't have poles its no big deal. I like having poles though.

its just kids that saw pep and andy do it so they are just following. if pep and andy did their run with a turkey leg in each hand you'd see all the kids with drumsticks in their hand riding the park. then towards the end of the day it would just be turkey bones.

shit's gonna take over. i can just imagine in a couple years, it's likely very few park skiers will use poles.

Ya, you should see the rediculous amount of kids that ski without poles now at P.C.(where the Pep and Andy edit took place.)

thats the day i refuse to ever ski into a park ever again. and its the day i stop using the word 'ski' in the same sentence as whatever the hell that sport will be. Maybe we could call it park-planking

Yeah it is a growing trend and surely like all trends it will die out at some point. I like skiing both with and without poles and I mainly ski with because it is easier to get around the lift lines and the flat sections of the hill than without poles.

roughly quoting pep: "people think no poles is a vanity thing, but it really isn't at all. poles are tools, and you use those tools for certain things, other times they really aren't needed..." It ain't about how it looks! try ditching yer poles once in a while and you will see...
