me and a buddy switched today when the park got icy... he rode my skis and i rode his board... now, maybe it was just because of the fact that ive previously skied for years and understand the concept of transfering edges... but i picked it up extremely fast and was carving fast quick turns in 2 runs... i even hit the smallest jump in the park and did a lilgrab thinger, riding away clean... this is my 1st time on a board and i feel its safe to say, snowboarding is way easier to learn than skiing...
It's kinda easy to say the same thing about skiing right back though.. I learned how to ski when I was like 7 years old in 2 lessons... After that I was bombin hills and carvin all over the place with ease, and at a young age I was able to go off just about any basic/medium sized board park jump with ease. skiing and snowboarding both really take no effort. Any Joeschmoe can learn that shit.
I started out snowboarding a couple of years ago, and in January I hopped on a couple of skis for the first time and taught myself in like 2 days. I mean, I hit the black diamonds and so on halfway through my 2nd day. So maybe it's not that one is easier than the other, it's that they're easy to pick up if you already know about edge control and how to handle yourself on snow etc.
Just curious, how did your snowboarder friend do on skis, or was he a skier already?
i have all respect for snoadboarders but i think i was just born a skier i've tried snowboarding and its not me...so i jsut stuck with skiin ever sinc. also for snowboarders it sucks becasue they spend half their time buckling up at the top and by the time their readdy a skier could have done a run so skiing you get more time actually sitting on your ass.
yeah i think its just getting used to like edging and stuff, cause i snowboard n i'v switched with my brother and my friends a couple times and i got it down in like the first 20 minutes of skiing, but i have to say skiing is just so much harder or rails, i don't even know how you guys can do it, on a snowboard im sliddin 30ft bars no problem but on skies i could barly make it 2 feet
im actually retarded when it comes to snowboarding. after so many attempts i CAN'T snowbaord. its pretty saddening because i really want to be able to do it, but at least 6 of my friends have tried to teach me and it just wont work.
so i'm giving in, and my boyfriend is just gonna teach me to ski.
its not that ones easier. it's being impressively good that takes work. anyone can just either plow down the hill or carve lamelessy.
i love snowbaording & skiing though. been skiing since i was a tot, then strapped on a board & progressed with that. can't say i like one more than the other either.
