According to the comments on Youtube he received an open fracture of the femur and section of the artery (=major blood loss) but survived and was skiing again around 3 months later.

uhhh..... what are you smoking dude? Gallant's crash was painful i'm sure, but he was fine and walked away, this dude had to be life-flighted out. Plus, just think about how much faster Thomas was going at impact than gallant.
