My HP just died and i bought an apple iBook on ebay about an hour ago. I've only used macs a few times but they seem pretty smooth, and i hear they dont get viruses or spyware. What do you guys use? Which do you like better?
Macs have some good features, they are sick for just internet and music and stuff, but PC's are compatible with just about everything, so much software is made for them which does not come out for Mac, namely high-end editing, music, video, or picture.
your software arguments are dead like the dinosaurs. Even old macs can run Windows emulators, which can run most programs, except demanding ones like games.
oh i read it....i'm just trying to understand what would make the opinions in this thread any more "first hand" than the mac vs. pc thread that was like 3 pages long last week.......
If you get a PC to go online, have your music on etc, DONT DOWNLOAD anything off the internet. Never Limewire, or a p2p file sharing program.
If you want to use your PC for video editing etc, dont even plug in your ethernet cable, and make sure you have TONS of ram.
If you aren't rich, and dont need high picture, video capibility, dont get a Mac. If you just want to check e-mail and write papers for school, get a PC. I happen to be a video major, and edit a lot. Final Cut Pro is way better IMO than Premier, and I just like the program better. I dont have to worry about getting a trojan horse, or stupid virus's (for now knock on wood) and it has tons of processing speed, and I upped the RAM so I can render video better. I like the Mac platform better. I'm just more comfortable w/ it.
please. lets not start this stupid bullshit where the hardcore mac pricks, and the hardcore pc dicks start yelling about thier fuckin computers.
the way i see it, both are great platforms. each has thier advantages and disadvantages. do not let all the hype of either influence you. i personally do not like working on macs, or the operating systems. some people do.
the way i see it, Macs are kinda like a M3, while pcs are more, eh i dunno, a corvette. the macs are a bit more refined, but cost more. the PC is still just as potent as the mac (if not and most likely more) but easier to work on and modify, cheaper, and has a wider array of applications.
i personally have a 17" toshiba laptop, 1.5 (soon to be 2) gigs of ram, a 3.6 gig processor, 120 gig harddrive, and i think it was only like 1600 with a 3 year no questions asked warrenty. theres no way you could ever get a mac that potent at that price, or anything close. but at the same time, its got some quirks and is not as "clean or refined as a powerbook"
