Why did you chose skiing?

Been wondering this for a while. Why did you chose to be a skier, when your age group is dominated by snowboarders? Did you grow up a skier and then discovered twin tips? Did you just feel like going against the grain? Personally, I started snowboarding when I was 10, but eventually I realized that all of the tricks are the same, just with different twists on them. So I decided to be a skier, I love how there are sooooo many more tricks that you can do, and unlike snowboarding, their actually a challenge to learn. I know there has probably been threads like this before, but I wanna know your story, why are you a skier?

my parents would wrap me drom head to toe in jackets and scarfs and shit and throw me in the back of the car. an hour and a half later i would be going down the hill holding onto their poles going between their legs. i guess i was forced into it, my friends would be in the lodge playing simpsons video game and theyd make me go out and ski from lift opening till they closed practically.

long story. my parents put me on skis in NY when i was about 5 yrs old. i loved it form the start. thats why in the fifth grade when i learned that we were moving to Puerto fucking Rico and i wouldnt be able to ski anymore i cried all the way home from our last ski trip of the year. so i was as far away from snow as possible when snowboarding and freeskiing also really took off. then in the ninth grade we moved back to cinci. there is a local hill near here called perfectnorth. so i was really eager to get back into skiing. the first year i bought a six day pass and a pair of parabolic skis (i thought they were really high tech) and went out a few times. the next year i bumped it up to about 12 times but it wasnt enough. so now that im 16 and have a license and a car and can go whenever i bought myself a pair of k2 fujis and ski 4-5 times a week and would never think of switching to snowboarding.
really long post i know but thats my story

I was strapped to skies at the tender age of 3 and boardering is unnatural. And I like the feeling of being in an underground sport, compared to boarding.

My dad is a big skier, got me on skis when I was really young. He taught me everything except park stuff-pretty much by the time I was 7 or 8 he told me to ski some black diamond and I just did it. I was hooked at a young age to skiing, though didn't ride twins until last year. Now that's all I ride.

I tried snowboarding for one day and I decided skiing was a lot more fun. Everybody at my school snowboards, I live in orange county CA and seriously at my school theres like three skiiers...including me. My local mountain has a skiier of snowboarder ratio of like 1:100...no joke. I get snowballs and shit thrown at me from the lifts every time im there. But I just feel so much more free on skis. Like i can do whatever.

both my parents skied their whole life and when I was 5 I went skiing with them. Did it a couple more times through the years til I was like 12. Picked up snowboarding because that was "cool" and everyone was doing it. did that until freshman year and then me and some friends decided to do the ski race team for HS as just a mess around type of deal. Discovered the twins later on that season, bought some, and now 2 years later im lovin' it.

Always skied form when I was around 5 I guess so when terrain parks started spotting up I tried snowboarding and didn't get it right way (I usually get things within 30 seconds and excel) so I got annoyed with it after a day and went back on skis and just went into parks and gaped the jumps and tried 360 and stuff. Then freeskiing because big so it just took off from there

I never had all that much interest in snowboarding. I like steep terrain, and heard far too many "that's not fun when there's no pow" comments from my buddies who snowboarded.

my brother snowboarded all by himself every weekend so my mom forced me to use the blades we had in our basement in 6th grade and ski with my brother so he doesnt get lonely. and then i liked it so i got real skis(shaped) in 7th grade and i tried my first rail and fell so i never tried a rail again until 2 months later in the winter and i started doing more and more rails. i got my first pair of twintips in 8th grade

Good stories. I'm pretty new to this shit. I always saw you guys in the park and thought the stuff you were stomping was insane and technical. Looked super dope though. Oh and snowboarding is gay in minnesota.

Skied my first time when I was in High School (1998). I sucked badly. Didn't know of twins, etc. at that time, so I just packed it in. I secretly began following the Newschool movement about two years ago. Finally, this year, at 24, decided to give it a shot again...
Now I own two pairs of twins and ski about everyday I can. Moving in with my sis in CO soon, so I can ski more. I'm officially an addict, and pretty proud of it.
