Why Is Sage Cattabriga getting a pro model?

i love watching sage ski.
Funny that the question is why is Sage getting a pro model.... umm for the same reason Hatveit is getting one, so rossignol can raise its athletes profiles, marketing, and because Candide isnt the only sick skier they sponsor.

But where Sage throws a crappy, sketchy 7, Boronowski throws a switch rightside 9 and goes about 3X as big, and where Sage makes 18 turns to a crappy little hit, Anthony straightlines and throws sevens to sketchy, crappy, hard landings.

But yeah, they're the same and all...

Right. And whereas Anthony skis big lines very well, Sage kills big lines. Anthony is a great skier, and I'm not putting him down, but I've never seen him on the level of lines I've seen Sage on. There is a reason TGR puts Sage and Nobis in there helis every year. Boronowski is a great skier, but I don't think he is on that level.

I don't think they are all that similar, other than that they are both great skiers.

I really should not bother to look at this thread, anyone who can't see that Sage is one of the truly great skiers in the world is either obsessed with the park or obsessed with racing.

Let's be honest here...

What the fuck has this guy done to get a fucking pro model?

The simple answer is "nothing".

There are no standout film segments. There are no standout lines. There are no standout still shots, and there are no memorable ANYTHING coming out of Sage catta-whatever and his skiing. Nothing at all, with the possible exception of his hair, and his multiple shitty segments in Anomaly, including the parts where he skis "lines" that are on the side of a fucking highway and acts like a douchebag in Japanese convenience stores.

Last time I checked, he was part of an AK trip that included Peter Olenick, far too many "jumps" and not nearly enough lines, and pizza delivered by helicopter in order to waste unused heli time. He might deserve a fucking slap to the face for that, but a pro model? Fuck no.

Pro model? For what? You might as well give me a pro model ski for being amazing at getting wasted and hitting on engaged 40 year old waitresses. Because if this pro model is any indication, being ridiculously good at skiing has nothing to do with getting your name on a ski.

This cheapens every other legitimate pro model currently being made. On the flipside, it's probably cheaper than having Rossi actually pay him through a real contract.

If Sage were a snowboarder, he'd NEVER get a goddamn pro model. Ever. He's the newschool equivalent of Chris Davenport and medium-mountain-shredding. And he says "bro" way too fucking much.

Probably the stupidest thing I've read on newschoolers. No standout film segments? He gets nominated every year for best male performance, won in 2003 for High Life and should have won for TD. He skied some of the best lines of the year in TD, and then again last year in Anomaly. If you don't think he deserves a pro model you know nothing about skiing. He's in the top 5 for the powder readers poll every year, and that's a group of people who actually know something about skiing, unlike many here. Sage is one of the best skiers out there, and for you to say something this stupid really indicates you don't know anything. The Olenicks may not have looked good in TD, but Sage sure did. Sage is one of the few guys who you NEVER see criticized by people who actually live in the mountains and ski outside the park. And Chris Davenport? One of the best skiers ever. Until you can kill big lines the way he does, or win a big mountain contest, two things you will never do, you should shut the fuck up and stop making yourself look like an idiot.

Sage consistently turns out quality film segments and the line he skis in the high life (with a 200 ft cliff to his left, on a 45 degree plus spine with huge slough) is the most impressive piece of big mountain skiing that i have ever seen.

he's getting a pro-model because he is just that badass. perhaps he is more the riders rossi wants to be directing toward. plus rossi needs a real fat ski. the BC isnt that fat and the B3 isnt a twin. i align him with pollard in my mind. they are both very chill, badass skiers that feel out the mountain in their own special way.

interesting thread, interesting (although generally overly strong) opinions. my 2 cents:

getting a pro model isn't about being the hottest progressor of skiing this month. it's about having a career varied and solid enought that many skiers will identify with what you have done.

that all being said, i'd ruther watch pollard, abma, fujas, mahre and many others any day over sage.

To begin with Sage Grew up somewhere in Wyoming not fucking bend he did ski bum around bend for like 2 years.
However Skiller did grow up in Bend and knows whats going down way more then you do.

People get pro models because the are marketable to that particular niche, and because the skiers make a profound impact on the skiing community. You can do that without throwing switch 9 billions. Its about making connections with the community, and sage has garnered the respect of said community by being a nice person with a unique personality, as well as an assload of talent. If you don't dig the kid, thats cool; but to put him down, thats just lame.

how about this.....sage worked his way up....from nothing, and i mean nothing. He moved to Utah, worked at a resort washing dishes...and just rode when he could. He did not send sponsor vids, have connections, or went to summer camp every summer. He is one of the only skiers out there who has really paid his dues. Thats why he deserves a promodel.

big mountain comps depend on so much stuff, even if you ski with the most style and fluidity, and even if you are the most aggressive you still might not win if your line isn't as balls to walls as the others. also if you fall once you're pretty much out of the running, so i mean you cant really judge a person on one run in a big mountain comp they didnt really need to win.
