so i hit a nail that was sticking out of a box today and it put a pretty deep hole in the base of my ski. it goes all the way down to the core. should i just fill the hole with wax or fill it with epoxy and cover it with wax? any other suggestions?
depending how good of a ski tech you are, you could
-base weld it
-p-tex it
-epoxy it
- or fill it with wax.
i wouldnt do the last though because you will have to do it every time you ride!
man there really should NOT be nails sticking out of features in your park. That could open a serious amount of liability at your hill.
If you can be fucked I'd take your skis to the management there and show them the box that did i - tell THEM to fix your skis. It sounds like it wouldnt have happened if it wasn't for them.
^^ Word, try that. If that doesn't work, don't just fill it with wax; that won't last long. Fill it with glue, epoxy, or something of the sort. After you do that, take to a shop to get the bases stoneground to help set and even out whatever you put in there. But, it would probably be better to take it to your local shop.
if the hole goes thru to the core, then ptex will often just pull out - it doesnt adhere to the core material. id fill it totally with epoxy, then sand it back to flat a it cures (which is pretty quickly by the way)
well yeah i was thinkin i could do that but they'd prolly just be like "u gotta use the park at ur own risk" or some shit like that. i think im just gonna fill it with wax for now cuz i wanna go skiin tomorrow. ive got som epoxy that ill prolly use to fix it better later but it take 24hr to dry so i cant use that and ski tomorrow
Ptex will crack up and fall out after a few days, so that's just a temporary fix. However, it will be better than having wax come out after an hour or two on your ski. I'd just do it right the first time and get a base weld, they aren't very expensive and they'll last a really long time. If you have a friend that works at a shop you can get it done for free, too.
It only takes a couple minutes to actually do it, but they'll probably have a lot of other work to do too. If they're not busy you could be in and out in 15 minutes.
ptex will fall out the first time the ski flexes wax will be gone in 1-2 runs if you put epoxy in there no ski tech will want to mmess with it sack up the cash and go have it basewelded tell the tech you will tip him a few bills and hes should be able to do it in like 15 minutes
