So we are trying to decide between doing a slopestyle on the lower night park -or- a big air on the big step-down?
Let me know your thoughts, I will leave it to the members of Newschoolers to make this decision. Thanks,

Thats a toughy. Personally, I think the step down jump would be sick for a night time big air. Put some more light on that shit n it would b str8 G.

Slopestyle is more fun because you get to hit more than one feature

Build a big ass jib after the step down and make it a mini slope style, prob solved.

well, I think we will go with a slopestyle in the lower park, for lighting reasons. Hames brought up a great point, that we have not really seen too many people hitting the big step-down at night, since the lighting is not too great.
So get ready to throw down tomorrow night, in a slopestyle best of two runs. See ya there.

its so hard to see off that massive step down... plus then it would turn into a spin to win, who can do the best rodeo 9, cab 10. etc
so i should def be a slopestyle but only on like the channel, then a down rail, then a flat box, and like the wall ride at the end. You would see so many more combos and crazy stuff on a set-up like that than anything else. OH YEAH, plus there are more lights down there.

be cool if the landing was bigger on that step downer. slopestyle would be cool too though. either one.

your wish will be answered on 49ner in a matter of days...biggiest landing Boreal has ever seen!
when the double line gets finished then there is a really good chance that the step down next to the pipe will go away in favor of jibs.

We were throwin down off that shit the other night and it wasnt even an issue. The third jump in the lower night park is way darker than the step down n u cant even cary speed through it to execute a proper booya. BIG AIR!! DO IT!

big landing sounds real nice!!!! i think that the step down should stay, it's way fun. i don't know anything bout buildin parks and such, but it would be cool if you could put more features accesible by one lift than all over the mountain. like putting jumps where there is nothing on the bottom left side of accelerator. cause it kinda sucks goin from the high speed quad to 49er/dutchman. but the quality of the features is amazing so props to that!!

we have to spread out because of the night park. one reason is we only have from 9pm to midnight to groom that park as all park grooming has to be done on swing shift so the snow doesn't suck in the morning. We can't pack anymore into that area and keep up the maintanance. Also adding more will wreck the flow we got going on now. Another reason we spread out is because 90% of everyone who comes to Boreal only rides the high speed quad...we might as well close the rest of the mountain. Variety is good and we have a variety of terrain to use away from the quad. Also, we want people to come here during the day when everything is pimp, there's no comparison between day and night riding. Boreal has so much more in the day when you get away from the quad...people will figure it out eventually.

People must have been throwing down last night. I saw many injuries while I was working tonight, one guy now has a collar bone that matches mine.

I figured it out last year, and I also figured out its only a hundred bucks more to add the day pass!
He aint kidding boys, even on the weekends there is no crowds on the rest of the mountain, all the gapers stay on the quad.

And to that note, the ONLY thing thats a bummer about boreal day riding is I always have to do it by myself.

I can't figure out why people think its so cool to ride...I mean stand in line.. to ride a rut and a bomb hole. I quess it's easier to look cool in a line than actually riding.
For those that have fiqured it out..well, you guys know the deal and apprectiate good stuff.

Huh? I was just saying that Im the only person I know that rides boreal days so im always over on the other chairs by myself, and usually the only skier there.

i showed up to boreal this morning and all of the landings were so haggered like bumpy with holes in them. same with the lip on the first jump in the 3 pack. and boreal's lift line is far from organized. however, props on those snow beasties over on 49'er. can't wait for a good day to hit them.

Thats what happens when new snow goes through this transformation to warm temps...it aint easy to groom 33 degree slush thats on the verge of freezing at 9pm when the night session is over. It will all be good again soon with the next wave of new snow wed/thur.

hey boreal, you should make your jumps like alpine. I was really disappointed when I was there on friday.

What do you mean by that? Mellow lips?
I too prefer mellow lips, Alpine seems to handle that the best but I think Boreal trys to give more air time on a relatively small jump. Dif strokes for dif folks, some like it poppy I dont so much.....

alpines jump isn't super mellow but it has a lot of tranny and not a lot of drop to the landing. and their landing is way long. but the second jump in the new mega line at boreal definately looks fun!!!

thats the difference between step down and table style jumps.
our lower triple are more table than step down and when they mellow out alot of people bitch that they are too small. Like thatguy said, different strokes for differrent folks. Our triple line will always be poopy, there's no other way to make them unless that are pathetically small stepdowns with no landings because its a realitively flat run. they have to be tall tables to have a good landing on that run.

boreal has the biggest freakin jumps in tahoe right now. i think its safe to say the lips are as big as nicks run was last year. anyone want to hit them and check the speed? theyve been up for 2 days and no one has hit them yet....
also i think it would be a good idea to put the yellow rail line where the kidz park is. it's so dope the way its set up with the regular lips and the urban style lips. i think by putting a few of those guys down at the lower park it will help add flow to the accelartor run. because if you hit the half pipe you wont have enough speed for the triple line and it would be nice to have a sick rail line. also i think the run that the yellow rails are on is always shady. you could even start to stick them all the way to the skiers right, and continue them all way down through where the kidz park is now. just an idea so you can hit dope rails and pipe or the jump under the chair all in the same run.

kidz park is there to stay and won't change..putting that park there has solved alot of the problems Boreal had with traffic flow in the past.
We might put some rails up where the upper night park used to be on the right side of the main run.
but it all really comes down to the fact that not everything everyone wants can be in the night park..thats what rail alley, 49ner and the dutchman are all for.
I was in briefly this afternoon to test drive a new snowcat and I did see a bunch of tracks on the new jumps so they were getting hit today. I really hope this storms plays out because we want to build a 50/60ft step up jump after those two in the double gnar bucket line.

OMG PLEASE BUILD IT!
I havent seen a true step up jump of any size for years, the last one I hit was in Vail four years ago.

Yeah, no one anywhere has built a true step-up of any descent size in a very long time. The only one a I can remember was at Mammoth about 6 years ago.
I figure it would take less snow to build a step-up in that location than a true table of the same size. Just keep your fingers crossed for descent snow with this next storm. We've got all of our areas scoped out of where to farm the snow. I'm really optimistic that we can pull it off with 2-3ft of new snow.

Ya know, I think Mammoth had a decent one set up last season. I could be mistaken though. I really hope the step up happens.

I guess I don't understand the ligistics of the traffic flow. if there is one thing we all want, its sicker jibs down there. maybe you could do one line of beginner features and one line of sicker stuff. it seems like that run should be the highlight of the park because its right under accellerator and people want cool stuff to hit after the half pipe.

If you don't want as many gapers in the way than the Kidz park needs to be out front. That park draws so many kids out the bigger parks that don't need to be there. Adding more tech rails to the night park line only takes away from the lines we have elsewhere on the mountain. It's not a bad thing to ride another chair other than the high speed quad. If we pulled features from the other runs and put them in the night park than what is the insentive to ride outside of that park during the day. Day passes cost alot more than night passes do therefore more of the tech and unique features are spread out in the day parks across the mountain. At some point people need to decide if they want to ride day or night based on what we offer that is different in those parks. Night park already has the best mix of jib/jumps out of all of our park lines...plus it has the superpipe. The night park is not going to change anymore other than switching up the jib line in the near future and as the jumps elsewhere on the mountain get built up the jumps in the night park will get smaller.

couldn't you guys just put lights on other runs? thats seems like the simple solution to me...

lighting more runs would would just reduce the amount of time we have to groom at night in turn reducing the number of features we can put out. Plus it really doesn't solve the problem of no one wanting to ride anything but the quad. The real solution would be to replace the other lifts with high speed quads but at 5million a piece that won't be happing anytime soon if ever.

The night park still needs more lights anyways, especially on the lower jump line.
I cant say this enough people, if you can drop 99 bucks on a night pass why not drop 200 on a day pass? A couple Sundays and its paid for itself, plus its a Nstar sized (several runs) without the crowds.

We are asking the parent company for all new lights in the night park top to bottom this summer. It's expensive though..over $100K(lights are $1200 per bulb)..so we are patentally waiting for the final approval.

The new jumps look way fun.As for the old step down next to accelerator, it has shrunk at least 10 to 15 feet. it needs to be built back up.

Now that we have the big line started where it is supposed to be on 49ner the old step down in the night park is going to get smaller or just away all together. That upper section of the night park is getting stale and is due for an overhaul anyways.. plus we never got the snow we needed to build that section the way we wanted to in the first place. I'm thinking that the step down will turn in a jib platform and the second platform with the staircase and f/u/f box will turn into a jump...a lttle switching up is in order with the snow coming from this current storm.

sounds good to me, seems like a BIG jib table to Large jump would be perfect there.

is there anyway that you guys can connect the staircase features like they were at jibassic? the first one right now isn't that fun for some reason, but the location of the second one looks prime. the first ones landing isn't fun or something. connection of the two in the same place as the second = cash money.
