do you think they are gay? if so why? i wear one, its saved my ass a couple times, i've broken 8 bones skiing, so i'll take any protection i can get

helmets are for people that are afraid..... you can get hurt doing pretty much anything so why not get hurt doing your favouirte thing in the whole world.....

yea thats what i thought, helmets will save me. yea then i had two concussions with it. did you know that scientific tests have proven than helmets have minimal protection over about 15 mph.

they help a lot on rails, but also i totally wrecked myself on a switch 180 this year over the step up at bousquet and landed on my side smashing my head, and i was all dizzy almost threw up like three times, but anyways it pretty much saved me in that situation, because i was fine and skiing in like 30 minutes, o ya i have a red impact

well if you want to drive with no seatbelt go for it.... that really has nothing to do with skiing but whatever turns your crank buddie.... i personally dont wear a helmet....... and if im gonna get hurt then im gonna get hurt i cant do much about it

I have had 2 major concusions and numerous minor concusions loosing consenous 4 times and all but one of those times i was wearing a helmet.
All but 1 of them were done playing hockey though and when i did do it skiing i clipped the deck of the super pipe at mammoth and fell on my head with a helmet and got knocked out cold. If not for the helmet the doc said i could have been in real bad shape.

Even with the major concusions i never had to deal with any symptons for more than a week and i attribute that to wearing a helmet.

Wearing a helmet is personal choice and i choose to wear one but if people prefer not to for whatever reason i respect that and one thing that should not happen is what some places are trying to do is require a helmet one way or the other it should be Volluntary.

ppl who bash helmets are dumb. if i didnt wear a helmet i would be dead right now. i am serious. i have hit my head into so many things i.e: trees ice rocks etc. so dont bash helmets cuz they might not look cool but how cool does it look to be dead

I don't wear a helmet because I have a thing about things being preasured onto the top of my inner neck and the inside of my wrists... thinking about it makes me cringe. The chin strap makes me get so distracted, that's why I don't wear a helmet unless I'm racing or something. Mind you,I got 4 concusions this season alone...

I have a better record without a helmet than with one. I have had like 3 concussions with a helmet and only 1 without one.

^^^Cruz then you need a new helmet that fits you better. Seriously, if you keep getting concussions you need a better helmet. Don't skeez on a helmet, they will save you. Hockey helmets are the same way, if you keep getting concussions then your helmet is shot, time for a new one.

Helmets save me mostly in trees with overhanging branches.....just duck your head and let em' roll on off.

You folks that don't care ~ do you know what a concussion actually is? Its your brain bruising - that's internal bleeding - your brain swells, and bits of it die. Picture the damage that you get from repeated knee injuries. Then think about how those muscles and tendons will heal, and how your brain won't. Those all add up, and sooner or later, you are going to be sitting in a chair drooling all day instead of being out skiing. Go ask your doctor what he or she thinks you should do.

i wear a helmet and ^ he has a very good point. i had one minor concumsion skiing but i landed my pole plant and it knocked my right in the chin.... that sucked i had a headach for over a day.

No, the helmet fits fine. They were 'deceleration concussions', where the head doesnt get hit, it is just traveling at such a high speed, then stops so fast that your brain moves around a little. Almost no helmets can prevent that. Sure, the helmet saved me from cracking my head open, but its not like it completely saving my life.

^ More protection is more protection. Helmets do also aid in deceleration injuries. When the helmet absorbs an imact, it effectively slows the rate at which your brain hits the front of your skull, pulls at your dural sac and brain stem, hits the back of your skull and settles in place. (Gross, eh?) It works kinda like the water drums that are in front of bridge abutments on highways - your car hits the barrel and slows down, so you don't hit the bridge as fast - same idea.

Reasoning like that is why its now law in much of Canada, and some of the states, I belive, to wear bike helmets. When I worked as a paramedic in Toronto, I picked up way too many cracked skulls off of the street that coulda-shoulda had a helmet on whom are now no longer walking.

Helmuts is gudd... pros wear helmuts when they do crazy shit... i have to wear one to go in the higher level park at Blackcomb... also, they stop you from getting dead, and keep you warm. I like mine cuz i got speakers permenantly implanted in the ear flaps.

My Helmet and goggles protect my head only leaving places like my neck and lower face to be slashed my my ski tips... much better that having my entire head (except goggle area) exposed to it.

And yeah, I'd much rather smack a helmeted head on a rail than a bare head, not to mention you can sticker helmets and not touques.

I had a serious concusion with a helmet in the hospital for 2 days. It saved my life. But i dont think they are gay. i'm one of the only with one on my hill but i have a helmet for every sport. When ur doing over 90mph on a sled u sure think about it.

my helmet is like a rainbow, and it has stickers..and it helps my head when i spill, thik of it this way, although it may not fully protect ur head, would u rather smash ur head into ice, without any headwear? or smash it with some plastic and padding to deaden the impact? i'll pick helmet

i think when ur just gonna go out and take it easy you dont need a helmet, but if ur gonna try and progress with new trix n' shit then just put it on. I also think that people should where a helmet fer sure in the pipe if they are gonna go upside down. but if your just gonna throw what you have dialed down over tables, hips, and other shit then i dont think a helmet is needed, as much. I always wear my helmet though because no one has the beanie i want in stock. peace

uh...i have gotten 2 major concussions skiing both with helmets, but i probably would have gotten worse without one...and for the guy who said helmets are for people that are afraid...hahahahahahahahaa...go tell that to Scott Hibbert...he always wears one, i skied with him right before X, just messin around at Snowmass...he had a helmet on, even though he wasnt doing anything, so go tell him that he is just afraid, and you will get your ass kicked. I wear a helmet because you will still get hurt, but not as bad, and i just got used to it, and i feel safer in it. O, and that day Scott hibbert disastered to 50-50 on Snowmass's biggest kink...i bet you cant even slide it normally....

hey little_freerider.... people wear helmets cuz there afraid of getting hurt or have a fear of getting hurt.... its to help with the damage.... i doint wear one because i dont have a fear of getting hurt as much as other people..... so there for your afraid.... and im sure not alot of people wear helmets as a style thing..... people wear helmets to make them more confidant and feel more secure and not afraid, so they wont get hurt severly.....

i like my helmet. its super warm and really comfortable. the only time a helmet really helps is for rails (where a helmet helps a lot) or with low hanging branches in glades. if you like under or overrotate or something and dont land, it helps a little when you hit the ground, but it helps most for rails

Cruz- my fried did that with his helmet. Take apart your headphones so there is no lower volume protector. So there is only the metal part with some wires out the back then put it (glue) in your earflaps and your set...

and to RS4LIFE- how stupid can you be? you are saying that people only wear helmets because they are afraid...well your damn right, i had a friend who was bleeding out of his ears, that scared me soo bad, and he had a helmet on...what if he hadnt...DEAD!!! so when you die in a crash without your helmet, and i only get a concussion with mine on...you will regret it...

the only time i dont wear a helmet is when i am in my backyard park...which is a 7 foot long PVC rail... :( ....it sucks but its all i have

Yeah - I wear mine if I know I'll be in the park a lot that day. It's saved me concussions a few times definately, and after seeing people wreck themselves, I'd never hit big stuff without it now. In one week of the BUSC championships in France, I saw three awesome snowboarders get totally wrecked - one came up short on a step up and broke his back, one overshot a landing and his eye popped out (no joke) and another overshot another landing and his head plowed into the ice - concussion I think.

i wear a helmet cuz its nice n warm..and it protects my damn head..i like my head the way it is now.
my 2nd or 3rd rail this year i hit the rail, and was leaning forward too much, so i leaned back..but to far, and conked my helmet right on the rail...without a helmet that would have truly sucked.
