i have the new 5g ipod, and i bought a 10 gig 3g iopd off ebay and i dunno i fit works or its broken so i might be interested, and the 5th gen are sick dude, if something breaks on it you can get the parts off ebay, i'm super happy with mine... like i accidently broke the screen and a new one is already on the way and i can fix it when it gets here... not to mention that its lasted me way over a year so its more than paid its dues... and i've had it full of porn once, and full of beavis and butthead, its just a wicked sweet player.. i suggest you get one.. not a zune, the things are too bulky, and look like a peice of shit... the new iPod is smaller, but if you can wait i think the iPone might be good, and if you dont want to really spend alot on a "New" iPod you can probialy buy a 4th gen for like a quarter the money and it will most likely work

Ok so now im going to see if I can fix it.
Problem: It droped and hit concrete
Symtoms: worked for a little while then it went all screwy (keep skipping through songs, etc...then it would work for a minute or two. Finally I ended up reseting it and the folder with the "!" appered and I knew i was fucked then.
Now this leaves me with a couple options. I can buy replacement parts on ebay. Im looking at the logic board right now....what do you guys think the chances are it is the logic board?
I can take the iPod apart no problem but with the (!)Folder, Im not sure if its a harddrive issue or a logic board issue.
Any input?

the folder with the ! ususally means its a corrupt file problem. if it shows an ipod with a sad face, it is a hardware issue. try plugging it in and restoring it, that should fix the problem if you can, but otherwise you cans end it in and they will replace it, just order a replacement package off apple.com/support and drop it off at a DHL drop-box. Mine fucked up and showed the folder icon and the sad ipod icon, and I sent it in and got a brand new 4g ipod 4 days later, totally free.

I cant restore it.
I have reset it (hold + menu and play) and that works fine. But I cant put it into disk mode (after a reset, hold prev and next)...it doesnt do anything.
When I plug it into a computer it says its not a reconized device and it can read it (meaning I cant run an apple update on it).

yup mines like that and has been for a few weeks now and the second time it has been like that. if ur warentee thing still works theyll give you a new one free. but if urs is expired ur fucked and u might aswell sell the shit. im tradeing mine for a 60$ sweatshirt

If your in need of a new one, Creative Zen Vision:Ms are great. For mine, I download my music with limewire, transfer it to iTunes and then delete it on limewire, then I use the creative media thing and just locate my files in my iTunes folder. Very easy

the only problem with zunes is you cant transfer songs you bought from i tunes.

yah you can.. you have to burn each song onto a disc with iTunes first then re-rip them you your computer.. its a lengthy and pain in the ass process but its better than trying to download them again

ya man i just got a creative zen vision m, they are the shit dude. i love it sooo much, its awsome. getting movies and music on it is so easy. just drag and drop, or you can use the software that it comes with (i dont like it that much just because im used to itunes, but you dont have to use it so its chill). it has radio, it can play way more files types than ipods, and you can choose your background/display theme, not to mention record radio and just record anything you want. its so worth it, and i got mine at circuit city for 230 (30 gb).

**Update**
So i tok out the hard drive and booted it up without the harddrive attached and it does the same thing.
Does this mean the board is ok and the drive is pooched?

So i called apple to see if they could help and they were fucking pricks saying they wont offer any advice because it's 600 days out of warrenty
im not going to fucking sue them, im not going to buy a new iPod...if anything, this is pissing me off at apple. I just want to know if the bloody folder is board or hard drive (it comes up even when the harddrive is removed...)

i'd say thats a bingo.. but.. what you can try is maybe putting a magnet on the drive.. then plug it back in.. and by magnet, i dont mean some pussy ass fridge magnet i mean like a big speaker magnet.. or earth magnet(if you have one i do for spraypaint) but yah just try to wipe it then plug it in and see if it'll boot on the computer.. cause it may work... possibly

If its the hard drive you can buy another one for $20 or so on ebay. If theres something else wrong with then it could be a bigger problem. They are 1.8inch drives. They're made by toshiba. You can also get a bigger HD.

Thats the thing, I cant tell what it is.
The only thing i know is if i take the harddrive out, it still does the same thing...which leads me to think its the board...but im not sure

My Ipod used to do that and I got so pissed off at it I just threw it across the room and it worked fine. Whenever I get the folder I just smack it against something a few times and it always fixes the problem.

Now it wont turn off....the folder comes up and then it goes to the apple symbol...then the folder goes on, then back to the apple symbol...
