people should start rating them because that exactly why people post them. so if you watch a movie or if you looking at picture rate them. and i think that comments are a second thing. important but, you can live with out. please start rating things. thats what your looking for when you post something, and guess what everyone else is to. thanks

I think it's the other way around. I know when I post a picture I want people to comment on what I did right or what I could work on. A rating really means nothing to me, and it would be very hard to improve your photography by using arbitrary figures people throw at your photos on NS.

ok well which is a more significant way to express fondness? a number on a scale from 1 to 10, or a vast, endless combinations of words?

i'd rather get positive or negative feedback that will be useable, and worthwhile!

Dude you're totally right people should rate EVERYTHING!
Sure comments are better, but why not both? The more stuff is rated the more we can start having it organized by rating. Stuff like the top rated section then gets a lot better if people are rating everything, you can really see what is the best.

i think Mr.Bishop is looking at this from more of a photography stand point where the photo itself should be rated not where you're looking for constructive criticism.
