I seem to eat shit at least once a day where i hit my head pretty hard in the snow. I wear a Giro encore helmet, so i guess that helps, but shit, i try to do new shit every day, it just seems like whenever i fall, i hit my head. any tips on not hitting thaaa DOMEPIECE?
Dude idunno like i always hit my head really hard all the time too with a helmet on and i really think it is making me stupider like i can actualy feel my knowledge and short term memory slipping away from me. I really dont know though, i think its pretty common
i seriously think there is like a technique to falling...and i think im lucky enough to have it because i never get hurt too bad on some pretty big gaps or anything haha
yeah man, if you're falling that hard consistantly, you're definitely doing something wrong. you've got to learn how to take the fall, so that you're not just at the mercy of gravity.
practice on a trampoline or off a diving board before taking it to the slopes. also, when learning tricks, you might want to build a booter into some powpow.
Everytime I fall it looks like I just died but really I don't get hurt much, just bruises.
I basically let myself ragdoll even though I bet everyone looks at me thinking I'm on a suicide wish.
One thing I always do is if I'm trying a new rail or something, I don't put pole straps on, that way if I bail I just drop the poles instead of having it nail me in the stomach or even just get stuck in the snow in some awkward way
1. When trying a new trick FIND SOME POW! Don't be trying new aerials in the park unless you know what you're doing. Ice is the worst, ground up is better than ice, slush is better than groomed, and pow just doesnt hurt.
2. Do the poles out of straps thing, I threw a big 5 in the park at my mountain and I have super loose straps, so one pole released but the other didn't and I landed on it and I have a giant bruise that hurts to walk on my upper thigh now. haha
3. Whenever possible, ski with somebody whose done the trick you want to try. You learn a lot about a trick just by watching, and knowingly or not you try to immitate their trick.
Try these things, maybe they'll help
Cheers!
I dont really hit my head and cant really picture how I would unless your trying inverted or corked stuff. Most of my falls consist of washing out on the landing or just landing wierd and flipping over.
I think you mostly hit your head when you catch your edges. If you're going to land sideways at 450 or something try to land so your uphill edges dig in not your downhill edges. Stuff like that. It's hard to avoid sometimes though
hit it today at bear, on the american flag, first person to hit it, i hit a little ice chunk with my downhill ski, flipped, dropped about 8 feet to my back/head on the second run. GAY
someone above said you stiffen your neck.
that's retarded. ragdoll, no hurt. no pole straps on jumps/rails, only straps around 4 fingers when skiing around. that way you can still drop them easily.
ragdoll's pretty legit though. if you try to fight it, chances are you're gonna hurt something... most people are strong enough to hold themselves rigid on landings (like trying to stiffen your neck) but this puts mucho strain on your body, and your muscles can be stronger than your bones and ligaments. just go limp.
maybe im luck or just a pussy but i havent hit my head on anything anytime ever while i was skiing, except when i was learning to snowboard a long time ago.
