External Hard Drive

i just got a 500 gig "My Book" external hard drive, it is SO fucking slow and when i try to play video on it, it is SO choppy and slow. Any one wanna give me some advise?

It's used for storage, not to play shit from it, drag the movie to your actual hard drive and watch the shit and then put it back would prob work out well for you

shit i dunno mang.  I would actually copy it to your actual hard drive instead of dragging and dropping then you dont have to transfer it back if it takes that long.  I think it kind of depends on how fast your comp is too, but unfortunately that shit can take quite a while.  To dl shit onto my ipod shuffle usually takes like 30-40 minutes for a gig of data

I have ALL my movies stored on an external HD, and always have.  They play perfect everytime.... so I think you got some problems with you computer.. could be anything, but from my experience, external HDs are fine to watch movies from.

Hell, I've even EDITED video on my external before without issue.

yeah, my normal hd is pretty full, i think im gunna clean things up 2morow and see if that makes a difference

there is no firewire 2.0 there is firewire (400), firewire 800, usb and usb2.0 Usb is slow, firewire is a lot faster. usb 2.0 is a little faster than firewire 400 and firewire 800 is twice as fast as 400

yeah, i ment USB 2.0, i havnt tried hooking it up through firwire though, il give it a shot
